Several posts back I started giving info on my unofficial fuel company test since I was doing a very long trip - Melbourne to Gympie and back - with a few detours but mainly easy highway travel at the posted speed limits, plus a few k's per hour adjusted by my GPS.

Anyway, so far all companies fuel has given very similar results: 7.3-7.4l/100km. This is for 98RON in my TSI sedan/hatch.

Except for BP Ultimate 98, this is giving 6.3-6.5l/100km on the same driving conditions. Really fantastic with no disernible power changes. I even tried a second tank as I thought there was maybe something different in the driving conditions as the trip from Coffs to Brisbane was in torrential rain and a huge southerly behind me such that I'm sure I could have put the car in neutral and still maintained highway speeds. So, from Brisbane to Gympie at a constant 110km/hr consumption stabilised at 6.5l/100km.

Has anyone else noticed such a difference in fuels? This is getting into diesel territory.

Shell V-power felt the strongest by the seat of the pants dyno but this is very subjective.

Drove from Melbourne to Mildura & back on the weekend. Had the missus, our 2 kids and all the crap that goes with 2 kids under the age of 3 - the back of the Skoda was full in other words.

Averaged 5.8l/100km on the way up – included peak hour traffic across Melb and approx 4 nite driving

Averaged 5.9l/100km back to Melb - A/C on the whole way & average speed of 103km/h.

    Good points about the drive:
    - Midrange punch of the TDi RS donk is great for overtaking the slow pokes
    - Upgraded both low & high beam headlights to Philips Power2Nite lights and they were heaps better
    - Passed a copper on the way back as he sat on 100km/h in a 110km/h zone

    Bad points:
    - Bloody animals running out in front of the car on the way up during the nite - normally not an issue, must have been the full moon?!
    - Needed more space - normally we take our Chrysler Voyager up when all 4 of us go which is massive inside. Even though the Octavia is big in the back you get used to having that xtra space
    - My 19 month old kept kicking the back of my seat - she thought it was funny
    - The locusts on the way back were everywhere - the front of the car when I got back to Melb was covered in the things, have never seen this before.

Generally average about 12 L/100km.Yes I said 12. Some days having a bit of fun it gets up to 18 L/100km... and that's my average reading, not current reading.
See that thing on the floor between the front seats with numbers on it, its called a gear lever. You only leave it in 1st gear when taking off, there should be another 5 gears in there somewhere, you may find the car a little quieter, smoother and more economical if you use the rest of them as well.

Filled up the RS tonight - just over 55L into a 55L tank. I've discovered the "distance until empty" is pretty accurate, unlike the l/100km figure

I've only done about 1,500kms and on my 3rd tank (not empty refills) 2x Shell V-Power and 1x Caltex 98. I usually have 1/4 tank left before refills.

Averaging about 9.5l/100km, but mostly city driving, but expecting this to drop. Better than my old GTI already

My last fill was at 11,130km and I have averaged 6.6 L/100km over the life of the car (CR Diesel) which has hardly been outside metro Melbourne.

Just out of curiosity our mkv 2.0 fsi Golf with my wife with a pillow foot has just passed its 99hr change over and averaged 9.5L/100 almost all city driving short trips and so far the Octavia with 2600km with me driving semi heavy foot almost the same city driving is on 9.4L/100 so more than happy with the power to economy ratio.

I'm averaging 7L for my TSI DSG. Short hwy runs I am getting mid 5s. Should get 900kms out of tank if 100% on hwy
