Question Petrol RS Wagon DSG, Is this because of the car being new?

My car has done only 1200kms, as I have tried to run in the engine properly, I was using S and M mode most of the time before the 1000kms mark, and I started to use D more and realise the gearbox and engine acting strangely(or I should say lazy)in everyday driving.

if I put my foot down gradually while cruising in D, engine doesn't want to rev much, and the DSG will kick down 2 gears when I put my foot further down, so I would nothing and nothing and nothing, and then the angry growl comes in and the car zip forward, sorry if that sounds confusing, but the overall experience is that the car doesn't want to rev in D, but the car is totally alive in S.

Is this normal for a new car? Is this what people call the engine is tight when new? Excuse my ignorant, this is my first time of owning a new vehicle, however the previous DQ250 equipped VAG cars I have owned and driven doesn't feel as lazy in D(they were all used vehicles however).

Edit: I guess what I am trying to say is, the car is too insensitive to small throttle input, and too sensitive when you press down just a bit more.

D mode is bad like that, set for economy. S mode is the exact opposite and pays no attention to it and it refuses to change back up after you stop accelerating.

If that is the case I want something in-between, S hold onto gear for too long(2nd gear staying on 5k rev for a very long time before change into 3), and D is too lazy.

But again, I have driven Golf mk6 GTI and Yeti TDI, and their D was pretty pleasant and rev happy.

the engine will still be tight (so keep getting up it) but I don't think that's the issue.

I think you'll find the transmission is learning how you drive.

You have got far more experience of DSG boxes than I so I reckon if you are unhappy with it then there is probably something wrong and you should get back to the dealer about it.
If nothing else then arrange a test drive in a similar car and compare the gearbox behaviour.

Holding 2nd at 5k rpm for an extended period is ridiculous, 'Sport' mode or not it is not benefitting performance or economy.

In my car (non VRS mode button), D and S and manual mode feel exactly the same. Difference being in S Mode the 'box' will change and hold the gear at a much higher RPM. Perhaps your D was defaulted to Eco mode??

My rs in S mode holds gears to 5k rpm. In D mode it changes up around 2-3k, depending on pedal pressure. I prefer to use M mode and paddles to have full control of gear changes.

Yep, I guess my car is acting normal then, it's probably just a combination of the DSG learning my driving behavior and the engine still tight.

So what happens when you are in Sport Mode in a typical urban area limited to 60 kph?
A vRS at 5k rpm in 2nd gear would be well over 60 kph, so does it actually get into higher gears?
