    Panel beater recommend. :(

So exactly 3 weeks into ownership and someone's put a nasty dint/gash into the front quarter-panel of the car in a parking lot. Did they leave a note? Did they ****!

It's obv worth fixing, but probably not worth claiming, so I was looking for recommendations for repairs. Melbourne, pref inner SE suburbs.

Wish I could get CSI onto it, analyse the paint they left behind, then knock on their door...

Went here a few years ago when the wife scraped left side across the front of another car.

They matched the paint perfectly. Red AUDI is not easy. Not sure what the cost was as it was an insurance job.

Long story, but I managed to track down the person who hit me. Pensioner with no insurance.

Still baffles me that it's legal to drive around in this country without compulsory third party property insurance. Why wouldn't you just drive like and idiot. No money, no problems.

It's pretty much dirt cheap insurance, I had it at a bare minimum on my early cars along with fire and theft. Good luck getting anything out of them, they will put the guilts on you bigtime even if they are sitting on some money.

Any chance of getting to hear the story of how you tracked down the culprit?!

"tracked down" makes me seem far more competent than I actually am.

My car is parked in a shared, semi-private car park. The damage to the car was distinctive and relatively high up on the front quarter panel. When I initially noticed the damage there were only other sedans in the lot, but a couple of days later a big 4WD showed up. Sure enough his paint colour (white) was in the dent and my paint colour (black) was on an odd protrusion near his rear that had been stripped to bare metal. Given the relative positions of our cars it was fairly apparent to me (and seems only to me) that he reversed into me in order to leave the lot - he wouldn't have noticed cause he's driving a tank and my car's made of tinfoil.

Anyway, he had interstate plates so I took photos of his position, plates, and the damage, called the police (who surprisingly offered to give him a call), and placed a note on his car to which, again surprisingly, he responded - but perhaps only cause by that point he'd been contacted by the police.

He's not admitting fault, but he's asked me to tell him the quote to fix, so we'll see how that goes.

Well you did track him down, so full credit to you. Good work mate, I was under the impression the car was in a shopping centre car park or sorts. Anyway, good luck with everything, hope it gets resolved without any hiccups.

Provide the driver details and policy report to your insurance and let them take care of the follow up. Your claim should not effect your no claim bonus and should be no excess given you were able to identified the driver.

Have done just that. One thing I didn't know was that I can withdraw the claim at any time. So should they find me at fault, I can withdraw the claim and sort it out myself without affecting my rating.

If your car wasnt moving and he backed into it they will have a hard job pinning it on you I would think.

I tried to withdraw a claim once and they said you can but it will remain that you made it and reflect in next years premium
