    Opticoat pro

Hi all. Am contemplating getting opticoat pro paint protection and interior protection on my new red MK3 Octavia. Anyone had it done and are you happy with it?

    Thanks in advance.

Save your money, buy some good quality wax and scotch guard if you must. Its a rort.

Is it a rort because it doesn't work? Or because it cost more?

I'm thinking of it too. If it is just cost I could probably justify it as I don't have the time, desire, skill to do a full detail 2-3 times a year. Happy to spend 30mins washing it fortnightly but that's about all the time I can spare. i would be paying someone to do it the full detail. 12-18 months I would have covered the cost of opticoat plus if my understanding is correct it can make the car easier to wash.

I should add that the most time I will spend on washing it is to put it through a touch free car wash and drive fast to dry it.

Ring NRMA or any motoring organisation and find out the truth about "add on" protection. Better still go see your local panel beater and ask their opinion.
Ask the dealer, why do I need paint protection ? Did it leave the factory with faulty paint work that needs protection?

Absolutely look at getting Opticoat applied (or equivalents such as Nanolex and CQuartz) particularly if you can get a sharp deal on having it applied. It isn't the old $1000 wax from the dealer so calling it a rort is way off the mark. Tons of people on this forum very happy with the outcomes, just do a search.

For interior you can save your pennies and look at something like the Nanolex sealant - about $65 delivered from CCP on here. I did a quick test patch last weekend and it is fairly effective. Have a look through here: Nanolex Textile Sealant vs Scotchguard

We are not talking about add-on protection that the dealer try's to flog. I wouldn't go near that.

I've had Toughseal for well over 10 yrs now. I was pretty sceptical to bought the DIY pack and did it myself, and have since had 3 brand new cars treated with it. If I had the time I would put nanosealant from one of the better ones and wax but you have to do it so often its not funny. I have other things these days to do and I get Toughseal applied. After my recent repair the panel place said all these types of things do make a difference and are getting it redone when the paint has had a bit of time to cure.

I invested in it years back as a regularly cleaned and waxed car had bird crap eat into the clearcoat in under an hour on a hot day. Wax melts pretty quickly and by nature is sticky. I still have a bucket of soapy water in our garage to clean any bird crap off the minute we see it now. I get a 4Wd done for about $500, by hand doing it myself with enough to do two cars is $120. People do notice that even when our cars are dirty they still shine like crazy even 5 yrs on and we don't have to wash as often as a lot of stuff rinses off in the rain. The only thing I still have to deal with is the black brake dust on the Skoda wheels.

Oh and for interior, just get a can of Scotch guard. You don't get the warranty but a the same effect and a lot cheaper.

There is no doubt that after market pain protection products work and are cost effective
Just don't purchase "paint protection" and "leather protection" from the dealer
Their products are also good - it's the pricing that is the problem - excessive in the extreme
