^ how did you run the engine in?
Please don't say "never exceeded 2,000rpm and didn't go above 60kph" . You need to load up the engine as much as you can, especially important in the first few hundred km's.
All good replies and info - thank you .
My last car, a 2006 Renault Megane 2L, had an expensive oil palate and never burned a drop the whole time I had it. I can't see why a modern engine can't be built so it doesnt burn oil.
I'll go to a dealer, get it topped up and commence an oil top up log.
Be interesting to see how it goes from here on as the run in period is now pretty well done. Time will tell.........

Its normal for a VAG engine. My A4 was listed as 500ml per tank was normal. I never used a drop, unless I was driving 'enthusiastically'. Then I would use a bit and topped up as required. If I didnt drive with my foot to the floor, then I could go 10,000km without a top up. Oh bought the car with a bit over 100,000km and sold with 254,000km. Never rebuilt the engine, normal oil use, original clutch, still pulled like a freight train when the turbo cut in.

Was that the NA or with the snail?
Even since 2006 things have changed a bit & VW seem to be pushing the boundaries trying too get that last poofteenth of fuel economy out of the engine & develop their product in the shortest possible time with the least amount bench testingand the quality of the product appears to be suffering because of it.
I'm not saying that oil burning is OK - mine uses maybe 400ml in 15,000km so some of them are as tight as a fishes bum.

I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
That's the point about VW/TSI oil consumption that I don't like - the variable nature of VW/TSI oil consumption which creates quality control concerns
Years ago Fiat/Lancia defended oil consumption (which was a fraction of my VW/TSI oil consumption) saying that the final compression barrier is hydraulic, hence some oil consumption can be acceptable
Back then I did a number of Fiat engine rebuilds which were all successful
I helped a friend rebuild a Honda engine and that was a bit of failure
The Honda engine used very low ring to bore pressure compare to Fiat/Lancia/Alfa
The engine worked but it's power, smoothness and oil consumption were not good for a rebuilt engine
