    Octavia Wagon Tinting

I did a search and couldn't see any obvious threads so I thought I'd start this new one.

Does anyone know if the Octavia RS Wagon has any antennas (radio and/or mobile phone) in the rear window and hence one has to get non-metallic tint to avoid reception impacts?

Right hand cargo window, the one right at the back.
Thats got an aerial on it... FM, I think.

If memory serves me correctly (and it might not, at all) the AM/FM antennae is on the roof, and the FM/TP antennae is on the window.
And I think the TV antennae goes on the opposite side.
    *think*

Cheers Mysticality. So no metallic tints then? Also, seems odd they'd have them in the side window as I thought they use the same wires as the rear demister for the antenae?

Does anyone know if/how one can confirm if there are actually antenae in the windows?

I'm also confused. Why does it have an antennae in the side window and also on the roof?

Also, do all the rest of you guys that have tints (film, not factory dye in the glass) have non-metallic then?

    Yeah. Combi/estate = wagon and limo = sedan/hatch.

It has an FM antennae in the glass to receive traffic info (which gets send in an FM-band signal) from radio stations.
You can't run two tuners of one antenna (well, not usually) and this just fixes that problem.

There are two tuners in the Bolero/Columbus units.
    Not sure about other units.

I don't want to bore you with the detail, but antennas are more than just wires. Things like impedance, electrical length, and the wavelength they are intercepting come into play, so the demister elements are out.

For what it's worth I went with Johnson’s Insulatir ceramic film to tint my car. Not only is it radio, phone, and GPS signal-friendly, but I just thought it to be a better product than metallic films. I like the look of it too, but that's subjective.

Cheers BS. Do you mind sharing with us who installs that film?

I'd be happy to share mate, but I see you're in Brisbane, so the Sydney shop I used won't help. First things first. I'd be seeking out a shop with a good reputation for doing quality work, and talking to them about what films they use. The better tinting places will openly advertise what brands of film they use. If they don't, stay well clear, or learn to speak Mandarin if you want to talk with the manufacturer. I'd do it the old fashioned way and look in the Yellow Pages, or try for a recommendation by posting on the Bodywork/Trim & Detailing specialty forum. Johnson films are quality product, and there is a distributor in Brisbane. Johnson's website here. I wouldn't go darker than max legal. Not because rules are rules, I just don't think there's any need to, but that's me.

EDIT: I just noticed "Request Dealer Information" near the bottom of the left hand column of the website.
