    34,000 kms

Best trade-in offer i got was $17k however that was on a car that wasn't discounted, so really they were buying it for $15k ..

I'm going to list it privately next week on carsales after I get the alloy scratches repaired, paint and interior detailed, and a new lower grill from Skoda to replace the broken one. Then it'll pretty much be as-new.

I'd be very happy to get over $20k what makes you think they are selling for 23k?
-- I know people list them for that much and more, but do you know they are moving at that price..

OK, spec from here gives me an idea of what you are talking about:
    WTB: Skoda Octavia RS Wagon
I don't know that they are moving at around the 22-23 mark, I can't say that they are or aren't. I have been watching for a while, checking them (in QLD) every week or so, to see if a great buy pops up. Maybe in that period they have come and gone.
I'm gonna talk to the Mrs tonight, as yours would be one of the lowest km' dsg wagons around, and is (almost) exactly what I am after. Al..

Private vrs price of 19k if it is possible to get, is still retained value of less then 50%. I don't put high kms on my cars so depreciation is the biggest expense.

Anyway of course the cheapest thing to do is not to play the game, not buy new etc. But I wanted a change and that desire came at time when Skoda is a bit stagnant. I could test drive the same superb I did in 2009, I guess. Or buy a scout but the alltrack was better and there is zero risk vw will not be around in 3 or 5 years time.

Skoda need to show they are clearly the value brand and they aren't doing that very well at the moment. Barloworld pre owned told me they picked up a 1 yo 6000kms vrs for 26k .. how does that make someone buying new feel?
msrp for a new skodas should be 20% less to shift cars honestly.
They have been creeping up in price, I suspect partly as the Columbus wasn't really a free inclusion but just got built into the price while the alarm system was silently dropped. The new 6 has come in some 6-8k higher than the outgoing 6 though, bet that drops soon enough as per the previous model...interesting times for Skoda, I suspect they are about to explode with the exit of the Falcon and Commodore soon and a more mass friendly look to them now. Their biggest issue will be stock and how to price when Jettas are selling for 26k driveaway. I'm wondering if the hold back launches of the Rapid and the new Octavia here are to do with building up a stock buffer like at the launch of Skoda in 2007. It should not be unreasonable to get a new RS hatch for around 37k driveaway (man). If it is, then they will have a problem.

Personally I think the biggest issue at the moment is that VAG Australia are playing russian roulette with their silence on the DSG issues and the 118TSI engine. If they can offer a long term warranty, or better yet a better transmission, the VAG family will walk all over everything. Personally I would like to see Skoda admin run by the Audi division where they don't have a personal conflict, they are better separated, people are either going to buy one or the other and you don't get the protectionism that is blatant at VW here. Because of how well Skoda does against VW in Europe and particularly in Germany the VW dealers here are obviously crapping themselves and so they should be. That shouldn't mean Skoda gets shafted though, the best product should be given the best opportunities.

Interesting take on the VAG conflict, I didn't think VWA rans Skoda Aus though (not saying they don't, just wasn't aware of that.
Colleague just bought a MY12.5 Golf GTi DSG and got a driveaway deal with 3 + 3 warranty, he wouldn't have touched the DSG otherwise.
Also, the RS runs teh 2.0TSi (147) engine, and I am aware of the problems with the 118 engines and I wouldn't buy one for that reason.

Skoda held onto the prior 118 engine because of the potential issues, worked out well for them in hindsight. I was backtracking through your posts nyc863 as a friend of mine might be interested in your car, but looking at your posts, the car has had a pretty rough history. If you wanted a top trade in, you probably should have invested in cleaning it up and sorting it beforehand. Doesn't matter now with you going the route of a private sale, but I wouldn't ever bother with a trade in without bringing it in pristine condition. Low kms or not, dings and broken bits tell a pretty good story and with leaking sunroofs, oil, water pumps etc etc they probably saw in the history, they will lowball you. If you bring the passat in with that sort of history in 3 yrs time, they would give you the same hammering on trade in.

Did you get the oil/ water leaks etc sorted, most of your posts referring to issues never had a followup to say what happened.

The whole DSG thing is there no warranty extension applicable for Australia?

My understanding was the issues were with DSG7 dry clutch, the DSG6 seems pretty well sorted? (can't imagine why it would not be sorted, this will be my third DSG6 box after golf, then octavia, now alltrack I've no complaints at all).

Yes of course it was all warranty, the oil leak (not that I noticed, VW World just said they could see it and it should be attended to) and water leak was fixed by the dealer, last two services nothing to report.

The leaking sunroof was simply a blocked drain. I can't say whose fault that was? VW world said they clear the drains, dealer says they wouldn't have been cleared to have been blocked 6 months after service.

As for the dings, a towbar hole in the grill, which I've purchased. Paintwork will be sorted by the detailer. So overall I'd say it hasn't had a mechanically rough history. Unless driving back and forth to schools and shops with the odd trip to Canberra is considered a rough history nowadays

The trade-in quotes (circa 17k) I got were all with the car sight unseen just saying to me if it is in good condition, that'll be the value.

If they actually had to do the detailing and rims themselves they'd knock down that trade-in value.
If I bought it all sparkly for handover, they would not have gifted me anymore cash!

It depends on their mood, I had an immaculate Mazda 6 with low kms that I got another 2k for in tradein, solely by washing it compared to the first time. They usually assume the worst to mid range with sight unseen, but a sparkly car does get their attention.

I'll see what my friend is up to, he was after one a while back and may be in a position to pop down to Sydney and buy it from you, or he could have bought something I'm unaware of. If you can PM me your contact details, that would be good in case he gets back to me before Easter (highly likely he will).

I was offered a $20k trade in on my Ocy back in December by a dealer in Brisbane (yes I'm in Melbourne) after I negotiated an excellent deal on one of his ex demo cars. I declined at the time. My Ocy is a RS TDi DSG Wagon and it had 73k on clock in December. Options are towbar, tint and roof racks plus the balance of the Skoda warranty (I took up the 2 year extended warranty).

What is the spec of your Ocy nyc863?
