    Octavia using Oil

Just wondering how much oil everyone elses Octavia's use. I've done around 18,000km or so now in mine. Last service was at 15,000 and when I checked yesterday, the oil level was at low. Took around 1L to fill it back up.

Checked the parent's Octavia, which has done ~8,000km and same deal. Sitting at low. Another Litre there.

I've actually had to fill mine three times now since i've owned it. Approximately 1L each time, and whilst I realise new engine's tend to use a bit of oil, i'd say now at 18,000km it's no longer considered new enough to use oil. It's the first time the parent's one has required filling.

Is this common or is there something wrong? I might start documenting my filling amount and KM's etc.

    From 14,000km to 24,000 I put 2L into my one (2L 147kw)
(I'm not overly concerned about it other than ensuring the engine is topped up regularly)

    mine does it too

it always seems to need filling up a few thousand after a service. I rekon they fill it up midway, instead of to the high-line.

unless its using a hell of a lot of oil, I wouldn't bother. it also depends on how you drive your car too, and probably how frequently.

Yep, mine's done 12,000km and I've had to fill it up twice now.

I drive mine briskly. Not close to red-lining, acceleration usually around the 3.5k rpm mark.

Parent's car is driven a lot gentler.

Seems like it's a common thing, which sucks as the oil is not cheap

I know what you mean, TBH my wifes 500 uses a bit of oil too. coming from Japanese cars that barely use a drop, I put it down to European engines. that's my completely un-investigated and biased opinion

Individual engines vary a lot too.
My A3 never used any oil.
One colleague has a MkV GTi that doesn't use much at all.
Another colleague has a B8 A4 that drinks the oil like its got a bad habit.

VW say 0.5L 0f oil every 1000km is the limit of useage... over that you may have a issue.. it used to be 1L every 1000km.... set your oil level to max on the dipstick.. reset your trip meter and in 1000km recheck the level... should not be more than 0.5L to top up back to max...VDUB...

You really should, when asking for advice of this kind, tell us what engine your octavia has.

Mine doesn't use oil. 1.8TSI EA888 engine. Had it from new & now done 112,500km.

    oil changes done at:
    15
    30
    45
    60
    75
    82.5
    90
    97.5
    105
    112.5

probably half were done with 502.00. Always 5w-30. various brands - valvoline, castrol, shell & whatever my service guy uses.

If you are having minor consumption issues after 15,000km (<1l/15,000) then I'd recomend you try

    Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 (504.00/507.00) $14/950ml
    Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30

    or even Mobil 1 0w-40 (502.00) $11.50/950ml
    Mobil 1â„¢ 0W-40

try this place for cheap mobil 1
