Octavia RS lease

Hello Everyone,

I am looking at trading my G6E Turbo on a RS Wagz but I have some queries
1. Which spec is best for resale?
2. What would you expect to get for it as a trade in 2 - 3 years as I take cars over short leases to stay in warranty etc etc
I work for VW Group Company so should get reasonable discount to help me get out of the disaster known as a Falcon G6ET

Firstly, welcome aboard! I previously owned a BF XR6T and the difference in quality is amazing. The Skoda vRS is a great car, well refined and just a joy to drive. Not to mention, after it is tuned it is more fun then my XR6T ever was!

For resale, I would assume that the diesel spec with a DSG would have the best bet. More people wanting to get into a diesel auto these days isn't there?

For the fun side of things though, get the petrol!

Just the DSG would be enough, not sure everyone wants a diesel really. The RS really on its own should be fine its already specced up.

Have a look at redbook its around $18k for a 3 yr old trade in on a man RS TFSI, having said that, you would always get a lot more selling privately.

Hopefully with more and more of the vRS selling now, and becoming a bit more popular in the market the resale price won't be too bad...surely not as bad as a falcon anyway

for a lease car, surely diesel would make sense.
resale wise, "diesel" seems to b the flavour now.
dsg - people either stay clear, or want it. however for the most part, dsg is being taken up with great demand.
leather - most people looking for "sporty"-ish cars prefer this, and should help resale.
satnav - well...its std now. should help with resale.
bluetooth connectivity - std from my12 onwards. everyone being attached to a phone these days, bluetooth is handy selling point.
mdi - u could say the same as bluetooth. the iPeople r everywhere!!
xenons - definately help the resale value.

I doubt whether most people care whether it's DSG or not. Over 80% of cars in the 2 litre size range are sold with auto transmissions and I suspect that most people who buy DSG are actually in their minds simply buying an auto.
Because the market is so heavenly skewed towards auto a manual can either be a good or bad thing it's all in the timing when you sell it. Dealers will generally try to ankle tap manual owners on the basis the "everybody wants auto" but if you find somebody who does want a manual you obviously have a much rarer car and they have less choice to shop against you.

(btw what made your G6ET such a 'disaster'? Are you talking about the car itself or its resale value?)

As for best sepc, well that's tough, how can you really tell what the market will be demanding 3 years from now? If petrol by then is up around $1.70/L + then diesel engines will command a premium yeh?

Transmission, well going by traditional Aussie preferences there'll be a bigger used market for 'autos' (ie DSG) so a trade-in will be easier there I think.

As for your optional extras I really doubt that leather seats or xenon headlights sway customers and add any value to a used car... convenience items such as Bluetooth and sat nav may well increase attractiveness to buyers on the used market though.

Thanks for the advice, I am leaning towards a Diesel DSG but just depends on which dealer we get our discount from and what stock they have.
The G6ET has been such a disaster because of the following
Climate Control replaced twice
Transmission failed
Rear exhaust section replaced
Wiper motor stopped working
Auto lights got stuck on
dash rattles
Rear spoiler falling off
Eats tyres (could be right foots fault??)
surges when cold
But what has annoyed me most is the "they all do that? Ford attitude and lack of service.

For purely resale, I'd go wagon, diesel, DSG, blue and leather. As you'll trade it, you can probably depend on the depreciation being the same regardless of the options (ie, a 45k car will be worth 25k and a 40k car will be worth 20k). Anything you can get for free is a bonus. But its pretty hard to be sure what the depreciation will be at this stage.

Sorry you don't like the Ford, I'm surprised you're unhappy with it given the raps it got (and that engine!). However, given your first question is resale, I'm guessing that you've taken it to a dealer and your jaw has hit the floor. I had an XR6T and when fuel price went nuts, it lost 10k overnight. But the car itself was brilliant fun and a stunning long distance cruiser (Dru's comments surprised me too!).

I honestly just didn't feel like the car was as solid as the vRS is and in terms as fun - I suppose it depends on your driving style. For myself, I love nothing more then hitting a few twisties hard and fast! The XR6T was a power machine and just wanted to burn rubber and step out sideways but thats not really what I wanted - maybe a bad buying decision. Either way, I bought mine for $26,500 at a dealer and put <10,000kms on it. Sold it for $27,000 privately 6-7months later
