    Octavia Resale values

I'm considering a fairly major life change (going back to uni) and while I love my car to bits (a 10 build MY11 Skoda Octavia VRS TSI Wagon) I'm considering selling it and downgrading to reduce debt to the lowest possible level, while my income is greatly lowered.

I've looked on carsales for approximate estimates, and all the cars there are either brand new, or the old pre-fl shape....nothing there like mine. I'm preparing for a raping (sadly) as unfortunately these seem to share resale equivalent to a falcon or commodore.

Its 2010 vRS Race blue Wagon (MY11) with Satnav, front & rear park sensors (fronts are dealer not factory fit), MDI with IPOD adapter, MANUAL and ~17000K's on it now. It also has a stage 1 bluefin on the car. It is in MINT condition - I applied wolfgang synthetic sealant to the exterior when I got it, and again every 6 months - I was the car properly, and regularly (weekly - 2 weeks tops) and it is garaged. paintwork and interior is flawless/brand new condition. It is my baby and i'll be very sad to see it go.

    I was thinking around 34K ?

PS Mods, this is a question, not a for-sale thread.

Sorry but I suspect they you will be looking at the car for a while longer at that price. Over a four year loan the difference between what you want and a new car with full warranty, MY12 compliance, blah, blah is probably only $30-40 per week.
The brutal and hard reality is that people will only buy a second hand car if a. They can't afford a new one (so it has to be way cheaper in payments) or b. It's a bargain.
You may stumble across somebody who wants one and wants it now but i wouldn't be holding my breath.

Unfortunately, poor resale values applies to the Skoda range (at least the octy anyways) as I too was curious at one stage as to how much our cars are going for secondhand and unfortuantely the news wasn't good. If you're a buyer then yes its great but bad if you're a seller. I guess it all comes down to brand recognition and Skoda is still an infant in the big boys world of cars. As Kiwi said, unless someone is absolutely desperate for the same specs and can't be bothered waiting and is conveniently located in you area and is cash strapped and can only afford as much as 34k, then you might need to either 1). reduce the expected sale price or 2). wait for a fair while longer for the right buyer. 3). run into some luck and actually find a buyer willing to pay that 34k (you never know, but i wouldn't hold my breath).

Either way mate, I wish you the best with your endeavours.

What you are asking for is not unreasonable, and what will help you get the best possible price is time. List it and be patient, however start to prepare yourself that the final sale price may be closer to the $30K mark.

Enjoy uni, I hope you study something you're passionate about.

Not only just for brand recognition, used car market has been really bad as new cars keep on getting better and cheaper. I recently handed in my Honda accord Euro after the end of the lease. While Euro was said to be one of the most value retaining car, I still had to pay $1500 as the pay out. At the end of the day, it really depends on what the market demands. As the market is not on medium cars at the moment, even if you had a Honda or Mazda, the resale wouldn't be good.

The market is on SUV and compact cars now. If you had a Toyota Prado diesel, you will retain a lot of value. But unfortunately for a Skoda Octy, especially a petrol one, I personally think $30k is a bit more realistic. But give it a go at $35k, and see how the market respond.

It's actually really hard to find many Skodas up for sale, and most are higher than people expect. Having said that 30k is probably reality, once you drive off the lot you have lost thousands instantly, but it settles down after about 2 yrs. I have a friend in Brissy who has been after one, I might point him in your direction, but I suspect it might be too much for him. He has been complaining about how much second hand Octys have been going for lately.
