would you have a link or be able to give us a clue what is said? Without some more info, i haven't a clue what you are talking about.

My Octavia cost me ~$31k. I'd figure it's worth $14k (tops) as a trade & $16500 as a private sale now that it's 3.5 years old & has 83k on the dial. That's sounds about average doesn't it?

I got 52% as a trade after 34 months , RS manual wagon low kilos , might have got more on carsales.com .

Mate bought his wife a golf in june sale , offered $12k for a 2008 focus with 23kilos , said no, sold in one week carsales $15k .

You really need to hold a car 3 years minimum or you will get burnt .

I'd be curious as to how the paper figured out Skodas resales as two friends recently complained how expensive 2nd hand ones were going for even at 3 yrs old. I know personally two people who sold at that time as well, and got a lot more than I would have expected.

I also have some feelers into carsales and they have really struggled since day dot to get their redbook numbers right and have actually increased the average price in the last 2 yrs. I call BS, because in reality I've seen them do better than equivalent Jettas. I noticed in a recent car running cost table from one of the motor clubs that the other clubs copied it had the Superb with higher depreciation than a falcon or commodore, again, I find that verging on fictional from the short time they were selling.

Just because a media outlet says the resale is going to be bad and predicts (key word there) a 42% rating after 3 years doesn't mean that it's actually true, nor does it mean that you have to sell it at that price. The thing is, different media outlets report different things. The Octavia and Superb were recently class winners in Wheels Magazine's Gold Star Car Awards because of their good resale rating.

So take what they say with a grain of salt because that's the only really consistent negative thing of all Skoda reviews since they arrived here. Only a select few of us have been in the position to sell our Skodas so ask them.

What you ve got to take in account is what you actualy paid for the car. I dont know anyone who has paid full retail for a Octavia. Aurions and XR6s are always sold way below list price. The better performing cars, Mazda 3, Toyota Hi-Lux are always sold at full retail.

I'm getting shocking resale values for my 147TSI Jetta, and it's only 14 months old, so I'm hanging on to it for a while yet. What did you get for yours after 3 1/2 years?
