    Octavia Oil Consumption

It is a 2010 118TSI with around 130,000 kms on the clock. Have felt oil consumption was always high but this is the first time I did the numbers and it is doing about 2000 kms to one litre of the 5w30. Is this within the normal range? It has been going good in all respects. Thanks in advance for your answer/s!

Whats your driving style ? Lots of short trips ? None of ours have used a drop of oil, between changes.

My MY08 did, but it was the 2L TFSI, it used less than that, but others saw worse. After the first 12mths it used some but not much. And then when it went to my wife it increased due to shorter trips. Haven't heard about it with the 118TSI, but not to say it won't. I've heard 1000ml of oil per 1000km is considered within acceptable, but I never saw that much getting used. Haven't had any used with my Mk3 RS.

Try changing to a 502/505-spec 5W40 oil at the next service, and see how you go.

It may not completely remedy the oil consumption, but it should slow it down somewhat.

By 118tsi I presume you mean the twin charged 1.4L

If so the are the worst for oil. Many have been replaced for that reason.

Do a search. There are lots o threads on here for the golfs and also the early 6R pole gti'

My gti couldn't go between services without needing 1-2 liter top up. There was a test they did to determine if it burnt to much. There was also a new half assed recall that changed the oil breather valve and a computer map revision to reduce the I'll burn.

1.8ltr Turbo? There is a known fault with this engine in the audi's between 2010 & 2012 I believe
Our A4 has the same issue (****s me to tears) it is way outside of the tolerances and requires new rings to rectify
There was a case before the courts in the states where Audi was forced to rectify quite a few
Another user in here got Audi to rectify his due to an Audi service record and a lot of pressure (but car got written off before it was due to go in)

As others have said, the Gen 2 / post-BZB 1.8tsi had issues with ring sealing. the 502.00 5w-40 may help. They also seem to have reduced oil consumption being driven a little bit harder.

That engine also has issues with the cam chain tensioner that you might wish to address.
