I was actually pondering this topic recently. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's meant to be pronounced Oct-arh-via, not Oct-tay-via. Because that's the way the Czech's pronounce it. And Skoda is pronounced Shkoda, with the 'o' pronounced as in 'or'.
But of course I could be wrong!

I'm from western sydney. I say it with as broad an aussie drawl as I can muster OCTAYYYVIYYYA
Well how's this, I got laughed at several months ago for calling it by it's correct (read: Czech/European) pronunciation, that is to say Oc-tah-via... my mate laughed and basically called me out for sonding 'posh'... when I told him that was the correct pronunciaton he wouldn't have a bar of it.... of course here in Oz we're bound to, as Bobski would say, use our great Australian drawl and pronounce it to be the Oc-taaaaay-via and if so then it ain't no biggie really, we know what we mean.
