After reading this post, I took the old girl out for a spin (140 km round trip). The first 70 km of the journey the oil temperature was between 90 to 93 degrees. On the return leg the temperature rose to 101 degrees and stayed at the temperature.
However, last year going to QLD via the Newell Highway the oil temperature sat on 107 degrees and after a couple of over-takes the oil temperature rose to 115 and slowly decreased to 110 degrees.
I also consider not only the load on the engine but, the ambient temperature of the day plays a part, during winter l have to travel 7.5 km before the oil temp gauge comes off --- to register 50 degrees, and during the summer months a distance of 4 km for the gauge to register 50 degrees...... (but l am know expert just my 2 cents worth)
Off topic note: The engine consumes 250 ml of oil between servicing
