Ah, yes that makes more sense. I know the gauge status the same, no matter what (in the car). Makes sense to calibrate it that way.

Antiplastix, I asked because the manual specifically quotes temperatures of oil as 'normal' range, and I go over that in normal driving. It specifically says avoid revs and load if you go over that temp. Why would they put it in the manual if it wasn't important? Why wouldn't they make it 130 of that's the safe operating range for the engine? If it didn't have a gauge I wouldn't know about it, but why give a gauge, then have normal above what is quoted? I'm just asking others if that was 'normal' for them. Obviously it is, but clearly reality is different to the manual. I'll question it at service time, but I'm not worried about it so much I wouldn't drive the car. Merely a question for other mechanically minded people.

Personally, I'd like an oil pressure gauge too!

Maybe because in Europe they do long life servicing. If the oil is 28,000km old & you are getting up it maybe 110c is a bit of a worry.

I imagine we would see much higher temps than most of Europe. Although you would imagine smashing down an autobahn at $1.60 oil would heat up.

Anyway, it seems 'normal' so I'll let the dealer explain it when it gets serviced. I have been doing some reading and it seems new vw engines are designed to run hotter, to keep oil thinner for reduced friction/improved economy. It's certainly hotter than my last gen engine.

Def wouldn't be an engine id cheap out on oil for!

Just reading a car review of a BMW 435i Coupe ( BMW 435i Gran Coupe 2015 Review – Car Reviews, News & Advice - CarPoint Australia ) where the reviewer was waxing lyrical on it possibly being BMW's best looking and most versatile vehicle.
The following paragraph caught my attention:

"I will however use a few more words to reinforce my assertion regarding the 435i Gran Coupe's packaging versatility. I'm not damning this car with faint praise when I suggest the only similar-sized car (note that word – not wagon or crossover) with the same sort of accommodating luggage space is Skoda's excellent Octavia. Although the 4 Gran Coupe's rear suspension does intrude into the useable space more than our Czech mate, there's still some serious luggage landscape – and that's before the 40:20:40 rear seats are tumbled."

BMW, the car for people with more money than sense

2015 BMW 435i Gran Coupe M Sport pricing and specifications:
Price: $118,500 (as tested, plus on-road costs)
    Engine: 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo petrol
    Output: 225kW/400Nm
    Transmission: Eight-speed automatic
    Fuel: 7.6L/100km (ADR Combined)
    CO2: 174g/km (ADR Combined)
    Safety Rating: Not tested

Haha ... really .. it's not really much of a comparison to an Octavia ? It's 3 times the price, 1.5 times the capacity, 50 kw more ... but smaller boot. OK.

Slightly different question. Did anyone buy the boot liner that ALDI had on sale last Sat? Is it a good buy @ $10?

The car comes with a reversible boot liner standard. Rubber/plastic one side, carpet the other, and perfectly sized to fit

Took the car out in to the F1 track. Albert Park is in full swing preparations (my daughter plays soccer there).
