Turbo cars do tend to use a little oil too, and the pcv on vw cars is known to be **** (causing oil consumption). My first rs used a little in run in (few hundred ml) but didn't seem to use any after that. I've kept a close eye on the oil level in the new one, but it hasn't budged from where the dealer delivered it (slightly below full).

Any new engine will use oil on run-in. The owners manual is quite specific about regularly checking the oil level.

Don't rely on the low oil sensor as there is a chance it's been coded out - and if you get that low it's probably already starting to do slight damage.
No surprise, but not every engine loses that much oil during run in and the 15000km service interval makes the problem more likely.

They would probably benefit from a 3000k inspection/top up as that's where most consumption normally happens.

Either way, I check all the fluids and tyres once a week when I wash the car. Only takes 5 mins, and means I normally get lots of ks from tyres, and never have low oil issues.

Murphy's Law says that the more you check your oil, the less likely it is for the tide to go out.

How is your brad? You have a 1.8t right? Lots of those are supposed to use a little oil

Went to from Sydney to Newcastle and return yesterday. On the freeway got 4.9l/100km and thats counting 40 mins driving in Sydney traffic. Adding the Newcastle city travel ended up with 5.0l/100km motor only has 9,500 km on it so there's still some room for improvement. What an engine that 1.4l turbo is!

Maybe we have been fortunate to get one which was well run in. Bought with 5.5K on the clock, did an oil and filter change at 7.5K, had a book service at 12K and now on 21.5K eleven months on and not had to put a drop of oil in it. Should qualify by saying that's in a Superb which mostly gets driven like its got some old fart behind the wheel (which I am )

Mine is improving as the ks come, can get into the 5s now, where initially mid - high 6s was it. Average is down to about 7.2l/100 from 7.6 last tank, and keeps dropping. Once it's had a decent amount of ks on it, I reckon mid 6 average will be about right for our driving. Which is awesome considering that's what our Honda jazz gets with half the power and much less than half the torque. But almost the same engine size (1.3 version - called a 1.4 overseas).

Must say I went at a fairly leisurely pace, 100-110km/hr. Used ACC on the return journey. My overall average is around 6.6 (80% city driving). Takes off like a rabbit when I accelerate though which is the beauty of this engine, you can almost have your cake and eat it too. Economy is still improving.

Tight as a fishes bum from the start.
Depending on what brand of oil is in it I use between 100-300ml in 7500km. I'll be honest - I think it's a freak engine.

Long term (150k) fuel consumption is 6.7L/100 but short term (last 5000km) is 6.5L/100km
