I hired an octy as I usually do with europcar for work last week and it was substituted with a Holden Cruze. I've seen them about and they sell well so thought it would be something different. It is honestly the worst car I hav ever driven. It was brand new, full leather, sunroof etc, but it drove like a slug, used 11l/100km on freeways, had that dangerous lag like a bad turbo, the boot was crap, and the layout and function inside must have been designed by Stevie wonder.

I got a call today from the qld state sales manager for feedback, and told her that car was sub par. She said the octys have been very popular but the fleet manager had just got in a heap of Cruzes now but have had similar complaints. What's the bet there was some kickback to switch to them, as europcar staff always rave about the skodas and some have even bought their own. Someone stuffed up pretty badly, a sunroof and leather seats wasn't going to make up for the fact it was a polished turd. I'm not a big commodore fan but I was embarrassed that Holden even sell something that bad.

Was it the new model? Sounds to me like GMH may have dumped a heap of the remaining old stock (the high spec unsaleable ones) on Europcar at a price that was too attractive to pass up.

I didn't realise there was a new model, looking at the website it was the runout CDX hence the sunroof which was their cookie...I like how it says it has spirited performance....I think the one I drove had given up the ghost.....

It was this one National - Latest Offers - Holden. Go better.Holden.com.au

I guess they are a lot cheaper looking at the price of the CDx (21k driveaway) than the 1.8L skodas which would have been nearly 10k more. I like how they still charge the same rate for either car though.

Yeah I test drove one of those Cruze CDX's in diesel auto and diesel manual forms and were a complete piece of crap. Diesel was by far the loudest of any diesels out there in the passenger car range and was pretty much lifeless. Even though I'm a short asian guy, I still sat quite high up even after adjusting the seat. Felt like it wobbled everywhere and the interior felt nasty and tinny especially the boot. Only good thing about it was the solid sound when closing doors. Other than that, feels and looks cheap. Its a bit of grand deception in that you get leather seats (don't know how much if it really is genuine leather). The dealers also try to sell them off for bloody close to or just a tad over $30k. Not worth the money one bit and worse still they won't budge to even try and sell you the turd. They think their product is so good that they too are blinded by the fact that its only a turd rebadged and sold as a holden. Even then, I don't personally don't really like a holden. Similar thing as the captiva, the folks tried to flog one off to me for...and I quote them "$55,500". Who the hell pays anymore than $35,000 for a loaded korean rebadged as a holden let alone korean car for that kinda money? For $55k, I can go get myself a decent VW Tiguan or Subaru or if not an suv, a bloody Octavia RS or Superb and the list goes on!!! Even Kia who recently brought out their new optima prices their cars quite amazingly at $36,990 and that thing is damn FULLY loaded with luxury features. Even Holden's motto is deceptive..."go better"???? All I can say now is, HOLDEN you're bloody dreaming!!!

Skoda are advertising the 90TSI at $24990 on TV in Melbourne I bet Europcar don't pay that for them.

Yeah although they always have the 1.8L versions, maybe with the 90TSI out they will get those instead. I've been suprised they were renting them as cheap as they did, the cars in that range are usually cheap disposable cars.

I had an i30 later that week and it left the Cruze for dead....

I've had my Skoda RS for a couple of years now and still luv it. I still get people asking about it and how it goes.

As for the Holden Cruze I drove one recently and it's not the best going around, but sales prove otherwise cause lots of people are buying them - same for the Craptiva's. Good marketing by Holden I guess but for some reason people will buy anything with a Holden badge (Toyota the same) without looking at other options. If only Skoda had the marketing budget..........

Too true. I have to admit, I never considered Skoda to be on our list for cars to buy! Definitely glad I heard by word of mouth...!

My olds went up to QLD for the weekend a while back, and after having a spin in the RS they made sure they rented out a Skoda

I was the same few weeks ago with my family from Brisbane to Gold coast, brand new Curze was slowest car I ever driven. Made a compliant to Europecar, still haven't got any reply from them. I would cancelled the rental if we need to drive a bit more KMs. Next time will go for Octavia (requested in reservation).

I have been driven a 90TSI with 7 speed DSI (Skoda was fixing my car). I have to say, it's so much easier to drive compares to manual. Not to mention it's quieter than my 08 RS, economical and much cheaper. The only thing I don't like is the initial launching of DSG transmission, it seems hesitate a bit.
