Skoda are advertising the 90TSI at $24990 on TV in Melbourne I bet Europcar don't pay that for them.

Yeah although they always have the 1.8L versions, maybe with the 90TSI out they will get those instead. I've been suprised they were renting them as cheap as they did, the cars in that range are usually cheap disposable cars.

I had an i30 later that week and it left the Cruze for dead....

I've had my Skoda RS for a couple of years now and still luv it. I still get people asking about it and how it goes.

As for the Holden Cruze I drove one recently and it's not the best going around, but sales prove otherwise cause lots of people are buying them - same for the Craptiva's. Good marketing by Holden I guess but for some reason people will buy anything with a Holden badge (Toyota the same) without looking at other options. If only Skoda had the marketing budget..........

Too true. I have to admit, I never considered Skoda to be on our list for cars to buy! Definitely glad I heard by word of mouth...!

My olds went up to QLD for the weekend a while back, and after having a spin in the RS they made sure they rented out a Skoda

Most of you probably also don't know that Skoda Motorsport is just a 110 years old this year and in 1977 Skoda 130RS won Rally Montecarlo (1st and 2nd place).

So, what else is/was manufactured in the Skoda country of origin?

Went to Coles for some shopping yesterday and a retired guy approached me and asked me about my experiences with Skoda and he said he just wanted some confirmation of the value for money and build quality and after a few min chat and him revealing his research and quotes from Paul Gover, he said he was convinced to go ahead with the purchase of the Superb. Nice that the brand is finally getting more and more recognition.
The RS keeps getting looks wherever it goes.

It was brand new, full leather, sunroof etc, but it drove like a slug, used 11l/100km on freeways, had that dangerous lag like a bad turbo, the boot was crap, and the layout and function inside must have been designed by Stevie wonder.

I was the same few weeks ago with my family from Brisbane to Gold coast, brand new Curze was slowest car I ever driven. Made a compliant to Europecar, still haven't got any reply from them. I would cancelled the rental if we need to drive a bit more KMs. Next time will go for Octavia (requested in reservation).

I have been driven a 90TSI with 7 speed DSI (Skoda was fixing my car). I have to say, it's so much easier to drive compares to manual. Not to mention it's quieter than my 08 RS, economical and much cheaper. The only thing I don't like is the initial launching of DSG transmission, it seems hesitate a bit.

Yep, at 2 minutes past midnight last Saturday moring the cop who pulled me over thought so too !!
Quote as he's writting the ticket "What car is this ..... oh! Skoda, havent seen one of these yet. Nice lookin. Especially those led lights and front as it came towards me ........."
    FFS!
I haven't been pinged for speeding for well over a decade ...... but I went BIG time in a friggin roadworks zone!
I had been telling people this car was going to cause me to "get bitten", but I wasn't expecting it to this extent.
Their trap was very "opportunist" and unfair, a loooong established, long roadworks zone, with a very recent little "extension" around a slight bend where the 90 sign had recently been pulled!
    *sigh*

..... I'll try attracting less attention from now on

Yep, there's bit of a technique to a smooth launch.

If you take your foot off the brake and hammer the accelerator, it will jerk like a bad manual driver.

The trick is to anticipate, take your foot off the brake, feel it let the clutch out and then accelerate. You won't win any races but the launch will be smooth.
