    the neptunes r 7.5".

so i just ended up getting the usual 225/40/18s - Conti ContiSportContact 5. $240 a corner fitted and balanced.
Wow Bob Jane must really jack up their quoted prices...

I just inquired online, and was quoted $360 a corner for CS5s (which is claimed to be a discounted price from $497 RRP!!)
They have a price match guarentee so I might have to test that against Tempe tyres, I'm sure they'll come up with some sort of excuse as to why their $230 per corner is not a valid quote...

A lot of us are running 8" wide rims so we can safely and legally use 235/40 tires
I would not run 235 on a 7.5" rim - it will be fine until you have a accident, at that time it may become a huge headache

You just need to shop around for tyres, there are plenty of cost effect tyres in the 225/40 size
In Sydney we do tyre/price research and then go to haggle with Tempe tyres

Noise wise, new tyres (full tread) will take the edge off that
The Continentals are somewhat loud - especially through pot holes
The Michelin PS3's are pretty good on noise - but they are a much more expensive tyre
Look for the low rolling resistance tyres to get minimal noise and best fuel economy (these won't be high performance however)

All the tyre shops do that to cold callers - even Tempe

When you approach tyres shops you need to have done your research and know what the specific tyre can be purchased for in order to get a real and reasonable price

    That seems sort of pointless?

When Tempe quote $230 on their website fitted, why would I go to Bob Jane who quoted via email $360? They haven't even had a chance to be competitive. If they quoted say $280, then I'd consider the fact they are closer to me and try to bargain. At 60% more they just seem like a ripoff. I guess if they quote that and people pay then they're winning....

Anyway I'll try my luck walking in and testing their price match I've nothing to lose. Just have a drive over to Tempe.

Tried costco? I've seen them with specials on PS3s pretty much all the time but haven't checked sizes, the 225 is more pricey due to it being not as common.

I've got P-Zero Nero's on my RS. Good middle of the road tyre grippy in the dry and wet. Only downside is they were noisy at new, though they seem better now (or I'm more used to them). I've got 35k out of them and I reckon they've got another 15-20k or so in them (which I'm very happy with). I think I paid about $230 a corner fitted, balanced etc.
