New purchase Octy 90tsi for just $17999 drive away!

Hi guys, on Friday will get to finally join the Skoda owners with a nice shiny new 90tsi manual.

Long story short, was looking at used, last week went to a dealer to look, came away a bit torn between a

    Fabia Monte ($20K) drive away
    Fabia Wagon ($22K)
    Octy wagon 90tsi ($24K)
    Octy liftback ($22K)

Problem was all were good in their own way and any one would have suited my criteria - more range/cheaper on fuel than the Honda CRV and comparable load space.

Revist to the dealer Saturday and came away with a Lava Blue 90tsi manual sedan for just 18K drive away. Thats an insane price no kms, MY12 and 5 year warranty. Honestly never thought I would buy new but this was too good to be true, new car for a used price.

Great for you, not great for resale for those who already have one.

I certainly thought about it as we intended to get a used one and I know all about the resale pain having bought Renaults. On the possible lighter side we intend to buy more Skodas, need a spare daily but this will be second hand.

Dealership was Essendon Skoda and were great to deal with.

Worth a try they are certainly willing to deal, especially with any demos and there are good bonusus meaning big discounts for the MY12s. I was only looking at the bottom end as I was considering a 2008 Octy for $13K. When I saw I could get a demo Fabia for $15K I decided to go new as I have never done that before - only question was what model.

He's just jumped the gun by a few weeks. Saturday was 2nd Mar & on the 1st Apr it is what you could call "Cars Birthday", after that, dealers can no longer sell late 2012 plated vehicles as New cars. He knows that within a few weeks, every bugger & his dog will be offering bargains on such 2012 plated vehicles.
As a private buyer I always buy cars in Mar/Apr for just this reason. First year's depreciation on any vehicle is a savage cost, deducted the moment the dealer regos it in your name. To me it is madness to not leave them bearing that cost. The car is after all, identical to the latest, still brand new & still with a full warranty.
You could try this in future; determine exactly what you want, write it down as a spec, including all extras you want, then send it to surrounding dealerships inviting them to make their best offer against your commitment to buy the best offer received by say midday the next Wednesday. Of course they'll all tell you they don't do business that way, just leave them with it & say, "Up to you mate. You got to be in it to win it."
If you have a fax machine to receive offers, you'll find it will likely light up at about 1 hour before the deadline. Then you'll start getting phone calls asking if theirs is attractive. (ie: the cheapest.) Don't bother playing ducks & drakes, or joining the dutch auction they'd like to get you into, just say you've got other offers still coming in & you stick by the committment to buy the cheapest at the deadline. Don't be surprised if a better offer gets chucked in at the last minute.
It's worked for me over the years, when buying on a No Tradein basis.

There also seems to be plenty of MY12 cars around too. They were keen to deal last week too but I figured this was end of the month and to do with meeting Feb sales targets. Had a very interesting monday last week, called the dealer and asked if they could get a manual Fabia wagon - calls me back a bit later $26K on the road, no thanks too much, dropped it right down to $22K after a few calls.

On Saturday after a fair bit of consideration was just about to say OK to the Fabia wagon for $21K and the other dealer in the place came up and said - 90tsi drive away for $17999.

After seeing the quality of these cars I am kind of a fan now, will certainly be keen on seeing the new Octavia or the Rapid.

Hello, I am in Adelaide looking for a Octavia 90tsi, dealer offers 24k. With a few haggling, they just say no. In other state, the listing price is at 22k without haggling. The problem is in Adelaide it is essentially only one dealer has the car, no room for me to ask around. Any one can give me any options? I wish I could wait until the very last day of March.
