I hope they do that, stock levels will help the sales immensely. 2000 is a piss in the ocean in reality, for a factory that can pump nearly 50k of them out per month.

Edit: that's like one working days production.

My order was already in the system. From what the dealer said, as long as the basic config is there (ie petrol, DSG, wagon) the rest can be changed up to 6 weeks before production. I finalized my order mid-November so fingers crossed and prayers to the gods, that matches with the timelines above ^

I was just at a western sydney dealer wrapping up a deal on a Superb. He said this weekend they sold more Skoda's than VWs. But also said, please don't ask me about the Octavia vRS. hehe

When I bought my vrs from a dealer in Melbourne his prediction was that Skoda would be outselling vw in Aus in 5 years.
That dealer closed 6 months later.

The manager at GCS mentioned along the line that Skoda is 'only' aiming for KIA level market share, apparently only 3-5% of the entire australian market. More realistic then outselling VW i reckon.

Vwa will make sure supply is restricted so they can't outsell vw. Why would they sell a product for less? If they genuinely wanted to gain market share, supply would be high, and they would embark on customer satisfaction increase like Skoda UK (I.e listen to customers and try their very best to improve perceptions by giving outstanding service).
They simply don't want the Australian market as the cost to do all that, is outweighed by the small number of cars they will sell.

I thought it was a positive that they outsold VW on the weekend. I noticed that there were about 8 Skoda demos on the yard which is the most I've ever seen there, so that is a big plus (if you like base models and white ). If that indicates more attainable stock, then its no wonder sales might be a bit better. I've got a 2 week wait for an Superb Ambition wagon, which is more than acceptable. (though don't mention the RS!)

Even though the awareness is on the improve, I agree and can't see Skoda kicking too many heads in. They'll continue to be a niche brand while they are in competition with VW. Many people are choosing between a VW and a Skoda because the models are so close. You only need to look at the difference in the showrooms to understand what the priority is. But you can't blame VW for backing themselves.

Might have been a better story if Audi were running Skoda. They are far enough apart to not compete and one can be seen as a gateway to the other. I think Richmond Skoda have done well and survived based on this same premise. Combined Service centre also helps. Toowoomba do the same thing, they brought both in together. I asked Penfold if they were interested in doing it but said the Doncastor site meant they weren't allowed. No issue there now and plenty of SE Melb to sell to.
