Agree with Brad on this. There are lots of coating options available out there - ceramic, nano technology, etc, some longer results than the other. What ever you choose, understand that non of them lasts forever, although some may claim life-time protection. If you are lead to believe that you get one of these coatings and don't have to worry about looking after the paint work, you will see that the warranty as well as effectiveness of the coating will degrade in no time.

I'm not sure what the flavour of the month is now but opti-Coat been out a fair while (I think it's now Opti-Coat mk2) & FMJ (Full Metal Jacket?) is supposed to be better & that's been out a while as well. Plenty of people happy with Nanolex as well.

The thing is, I've never heard any long term owners raving about how great their dealer supplied package is but the opti-Coat / FMJ / nanolex folk all have to wear nappies they are so excited with the outcome.

I was just browsing some other posts on the subject & the base cost of Audi paint/leather protection packages (no tint) is $200. Last time I got tint done it was $330 for "good stuff". The dealer still has a good profit margin at $1200.

In the end it's your call.

IMO check if you can get paint, wheel and window protection for $600, that would be a good price. Interior will be roughly $160. I'm not a fan of dealer pushed paint protection, just for the fact that they rip you off. Always get it done at an independent who specialises in it. Tinting will be about $370.

    Worth it?
    I figure its OK

    That allows for:

    $600 for opti-coat
$400 for Window Tint (Rough price i received)
$230 for interior & leather protection

I tested Toughseal well over 10yrs ago, and have had several cars go the full 5yrs they say it will. It was still on there and when I had panels repainted recently it was obvious where it wasn't. I'm sure some of the others may be as good or not. What I've found I need more is scratch resistance as the more modern water based paints are so soft. Whatever Hyundai use must be made of eggshells as it scratches quite deeply from little things.

TSI. Im up north of sydney. They are building a Skoda showroom and have no cars, so they are going to use mine as advertisement. I'll use that to hopefully get free tint and free 2 year extended warranty!

Asian cars paint is both soft, and thin. Mazda are shocking for it, only 70 micron.

Vag cars are 'medium to hard' and much thicker 110-140 micron. Merc and BMW have 'hard' paintwork.

Yeah I remember when Mazda moved to more Eco paints with the launch of the Mazda 3 and people commenting how soft it was. We had the last of the 323s and its paint as a world apart.

Edit: and they have a reasonable level of ir (heat) protection too. Don't think of the glass like a glasshouse.....
I've had a pano roof RS wagon for 2 and a bit weeks now and you're right ... the pano glass has a very heavy tint with good heat protection. I ordered the pano roof mainly to lighten up the all black/grey interior and thought that I would always have to close the electric blind when driving in full sun in warmer months. Much to my surprise, I only close the blind when parked outside on a hot day but the sunroof blind open button is always pressed just after the start button (and today was a 31 degree sunny day). My family really love it too... especially the back seat passengers (there's a couple of pics of the roof on this thread on page 227)

I highly recommend it ... it's one of my favourite features of the car!

Mark, stop it. Your making a very good case for the Pano Roof option. Can you post some pics of the roof from above please. Cheers Al

I Got this. I have links to Briskoda with guys who have been kind (like mark) and taken extensive photos.

Panoramic Sunroof - Skoda Octavia III (2013 onward) - BRISKODA.net - The Skoda Forum and Community

My Octy Elegance short review with plenty of pics =) - Skoda Octavia III (2013 onward) - BRISKODA.net - The Skoda Forum and Community

And a video (not a skoda, but almost identical pano roof)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtac2tnzT3o

It took me ages to find good pics. Lots of people have them now so not as hard, but when I ordered, not many had them.

I reckon its one of the best ~$1700 options you can get. It would cost double that aftermarket, and not be as good
