Sounds a good plan. I prefer to have all windows same tint, not darker at the back. I've got a bit of time to decide yet

I had my Subie sunroof tinted with a highly reflective film (Not sure of specs, will look up) and that made a huge difference to glare inside the vehicle.

He does it so more tint gets down below where it can peel off, most places just shove it down behind the rubber. I've never had issues with that happening, Rob came pretty highly recommended, just with a warning he won't do certain cars that he can't get trims off. I had no dramas but was taking a Hyundai Santa Fe a model he has done many times. I usually get the dealer to do them with a lifetime warranty grade film but just forgot with my Skoda. Normally I ask for it as the final "free" throwin, but the Hyundai dealer wouldn't budge.

The sunroofs I have had generally have a pretty good finish on them already. Aftermarket Hollandias are pretty cool inside in blazing sun.

Maybe one of the owners with a roof can pipe up, but Skoda's ones are already tinted quite a lot, and are 94+% UV protection in the glass alone.

I won't be getting the roof glass tinted.

Edit: and they have a reasonable level of ir (heat) protection too. Don't think of the glass like a glasshouse.....

Fair nuf. I hadn't checked out any details. Subie was tinted from factory but the issue for me was the glare, not the heat. Made it uncomfortable on my ageing (read balding !) pate ! and squinting while driving ('spose I could have worn sunnies instead of my specs !)

Some sunroofs are, some aren't. The Skoda ones are excellent, but I know Nissan use old tech glass that is hot as buggery with no UV protection. Other car makers do to.

When doing my research before getting the roof (having to prove to my very pale wife it would be OK) it appears vag bought out the tech for glass for sunroof from hollandia, who were world leaders. Which is why they get the 'special' glass. Not sure if other makes get it.

In addition the quality tinted glass in the sunroof, my Mk 2 RS sunroof has a pretty good shade blind which basically blocks out 99% of the remaining heat/glare etc. Doesn't the Mk 3 have a similar blind?

The biggest advantage of the Mk 2 sunroof is you can pop the glass up when the car is parked in the sun, and in conjunction with a windscreen reflective blind, the car remains quite cool inside when parked in the sun (I also have tinted windows). And the windscreen wiper sensor automatically detects when it starts to rain and closes your sunroof automatically for you!!!!

OK, after i told the dealer that i would not be interested in having them do the paint protection, interior protection & window tinting (Because i was going with another company) They've just emailed me and offered the total package for $1230

    Worth it?
    I figure its OK

    That allows for:

    $600 for opti-coat
$400 for Window Tint (Rough price i received)
$230 for interior & leather protection

That's not too bad if it is genuine opti coat. You getting leather or cloth? 303 aerospace interior protectant is cheap and easy to apply.

It really depends on what they do for the money and if there are any caveats in the product warranty. I remember back in the days of Ming Surface treatment warranty was void unless you had the vehicle inspected every 12 months & various other hoop-jumping exercises.

I'm not sure what the flavour of the month is now but opti-Coat been out a fair while (I think it's now Opti-Coat mk2) & FMJ (Full Metal Jacket?) is supposed to be better & that's been out a while as well. Plenty of people happy with Nanolex as well.

The thing is, I've never heard any long term owners raving about how great their dealer supplied package is but the opti-Coat / FMJ / nanolex folk all have to wear nappies they are so excited with the outcome.

I was just browsing some other posts on the subject & the base cost of Audi paint/leather protection packages (no tint) is $200. Last time I got tint done it was $330 for "good stuff". The dealer still has a good profit margin at $1200.

In the end it's your call.
