Spotted this white wagon with black-pack on a truck ready to leave the freight depot.... lucky new owner is only days away from driving their car.

I think it's just a protective film that the cars get shipped with to stop scratching on the exterior plastics.

Probably the wrong section to post this in but I will. Test drove a new golf gti today, man that car is great. So great I almost purchased today. I didn't get a chance to go try the octavia rs at another dealership today as it's a distance away and short on time, last week the rs I drove made me feel I'll which you guys that are following will be aware. Reckon I'll get away with a gti as a family car? I'm trying to convince myself that by some magic a stroller and 2 babys(maximum when and if the time comes) will fit and all the gear that comes with kids. I know if I go on a holiday drive somewhere you can attach a rhino box on the roof which will do the job. Can this work or am I really kidding myself? Happy to be slapped back to reality please.

I love the gti too, but have 2 kids (3.5 and 1.5) but no way is a golf a 'family' car. The rs is an excellent compromise. 95% as good as the gti, but substantially better at family stuff. The boot is double the size for starters, and there is lots more rear leg room. Plus it's 5k+ cheaper.

There is a reason why im upgrading from the Golf to the Octy (non RS wagon) - its no family car. You can use it as a daily easily, but I've got 2 kids and its not practical for road trips. Seating is tight due to having both seats RF. You can load the shopping in the boot easily with a small pram like the bugaboo. I travel light when out with kids
I guess it depends on how long you plan on keeping the car and how soon you'll be having kids.

I thought you were going to ask how long he was planning on keeping the kids!

Agree a wagon is infinitely more practical and marginally poorer handling.

Hey Stiv, this is why I suggested the golf. If it's not the main family car it will do great. However if it a choice between the Golf GTI and an Octavia RS then it is the RS everytime. Do yourself a favour and take an R for a drive. I was firmly determined an RS would be my next car and then I drove the R (also had something to do with the 8 month wait!!!!!)
