    1. The DSG is an updated version of the one found in the Mk1 & Mk2. It's a reliable box with no issues being reported from mk7 GTI drivers. Shifts alot smoother than the dsg in the mk6 GTI.

    2. Can be at an independent and still retain the factory warranty. Not sure about extended warranty. My family services their vws at exoticars in north Parramatta.

    3. Dealers vary. I got a good deal at trivett Parramatta but others didn't. Good luck with the purchase though.

I'm new here. Just a couple of questions. I read this thread up until page 50 (reading backwards), and couldn't find this info.

Planning to buy an Octavia RS (will test drive this weekend if time allows). I also understand there's a waiting time of 6 months which I don't mind.

    1. What about the DSG in Octavia RS? Did the Mk I and Mk II use the same DSG 6 speed? AFAIK, the DSG6 (wet) is more reliable than DSG7, so what's the experience of those who have used RS since Mk I. Does it put you off to buy the Mk III?

    2. Servicing, does it have to be in VW service dealers? From what I've read, VW dealers are shocking at best with their service (especially if it's related with DSG). Can we use independent specialists for Skoda and still protect the warranty?

    3. Last but not least, any preferred dealer to deal with? Reading this thread there are two that stand out (Central Coast and Newcastle). A bit out of the way, since I am in Sydney, however I'd like to trade in so I have to go there personally if those two are better.
    1) You mustn't have read properly as it's been asked & answered. RS & diesels are DQ250 DSG6 - Goodgearbox & bugs are ironed out. It's important to get them serviced every 60k (45k would be my preference).
    DQ200 DSG7 is a lottery.

2). VW & Audi are generally not interested in servicing your Skoda because their VW diagnostic software doesn't extend to Skoda but there are a couple of regionals that can/will. If you're in Sydney then you are stuck with Skoda if you want a proper service or any warranty work.

Australian law says that servicing has to be carried out by suitably qualified personnel using replacement parts that are fit for purpose (I'd interpret this as OEM parts). There's no requirement to use a Skoda Service Centre for servicing but if you need warranty then you are stuck with Skoda.

You are more likely to get a goodwill repair outside of warranty if you have a "relationship" with the dealer & a service book full of stamps from the dealership.

    3). Pass.

Good to hear about the DSG and the warranty. Thanks.

I guess I must've missed it. I'll read it further on this thread. Apologies for that.

It's a little bit contradicting too about servicing. I was under the impression they will still retain factory warranty even if I service it with an independent specialist?

Does this mean you don't suggest it worth the drive and effort, mate or just that you wont comment on this?

Thanks for the responses. Appreciate it.

    Cheers.

You'll retain factory warranty if you use an independant (doesn't have to be a specialist or even a licenced workshop - Uncle Bob can do it if he's suitably trained & qualified) but the independant can't do warranty.

    I simply haven't a clue so can't comment.

    i don't have proof, but i'm sure the dsg6 used in the golf-mk7 / octavia-mk3 is the same dsg6 that was used with the golf-mk6 / octavia-mk2, i.e. the DQ250.
the actual dsg software tune might have been changed/modified for the mk7, but the dsg hardware is the same.

also - the mk1 octavia did not have dsg. they only came with manual/automatic.

You don't think the DQ250 would have incremental hardware changes/evolution over 5 plus years?

As long as it's reliable without adding more headaches, should be fine with it.

Also, I keep reading about delays in DSG, if I read correctly, that's because the DSG pre selects second gear when we are moving from still ?

So do I have to change the habit of depressing accelerator immediately after releasing brake, in order to give DSG time?

I would think it has had changes in both hardware & software but it's like Win8, Win 8.1 rather than WinXP, Win8.1.

I don't think the mechanical changes have been as drastic as from my 2007 EA888 to the current Gen3 EA888.

I assumed he meant pre-FL & FL. It didn't even occur to me that he actually meant MK1

There must be some changes mechanically because those early mechatronics units were a nightmare.

    Newcastle does Audi/Skoda as well.

It's nothing like the "You'll be able to take your Skoda to any VW service centre" that was hinted at by VW/Skoda in the early days.

Central Coast was good on price, no experience of dealership otherwise. Trivett was also close in price enough to save you the drive.
