Good review of the new Octavia range in the local Illawarra Mercury today. Prices seem good but limited info on what options are available and their cost.

I had a chance to check out a Elegance Liftback and Wagon today. The interior looks great, I prefer it much more than the design of the Golf 7 and the 8 Inch screen is amazing! Huge improvement over the RNS-510 and much higher quality than the basic touch unit in the Golf 7, I've got a hunch the 8 Incher will make its way into higher end VWs in a MY15 change methinks. Its very, very fluid and displays album artwork over bluetooth.

I thought the kessy would be lame having the button just where the key barrel use to be but it's a very natural place to put it, the rear seats are very roomy and the pedal box feels less cramped and more centred (the old octavia feels a little bit to far to the left).

I haven't had a chance to test drive it as they hadn't registered the cars yet, but I should be able to on tuesday. It's nice to see a VW brand car finally spec'd from the get go with features available in europe.

All in all I really like it and all but confirms that either the 132tsi or the RS will be my future car. I just hope they bring the RS in steel grey.

My Superb has KESSY and the button is in the same position. As you say, it is the natural place. Putting it on the dashboard or central console would be a pathetic attempt at retro. It is good on my 1952 Riley as that is where all 8 buttons and switches are but Skoda has got it right.

I had a look at the same models yesterday too. Elegance wagon with tech pack was about 42k OTR though final prices are still being tweaked according to the sales guy. Very impressed with the feeling of solidity of the car though its 100kg lighter than the model model. Doors belong on a bank vault. Console/dash area looks good as does the 8" screen. Sales guy said that when you are low on fuel the sat nav automatically tells you where the closest fuel is. Also says it has "360 degree" parking sensors??. Seats are better than the current model as is the seating position. The inner door panels seemed a little downmarket but thats no deal breaker for me. Agree that the KESSY system starter button position seems quite natural too.Might wait until the sales settle down a bit and see what prices are in the new year.

Yes, any car with auto parking (ala Elegance w/ tech pack) has 360 degree parking sensors, you'll notice them on the side of the front bumper. Thats how they can parallel park.

I finally had a look at it too, and I'm probably the first to say that I'm very disappointed with the new Octy.

Yes it's nice, but it didn't give me the "wow-factor" I was hoping for. Same as another member on this forum it wasn't appealing to me to get into the car and have a seat and feel.

So unless the RS is a huge improvement then the ones which are at the dealerships now, I won't be buying a Skoda after this one anymore

Just went for a drive to "Southern Classic Cars" to check out the new Octavia. They have none on the lot, "still being detailed" apparently.
Was told that they will have a wagon and a sedan later in the week. When I asked if either was a "diesel", "no will be 118 tsi (WTF). Then didn t believe me when I told him that didn t exist anymore.
Exactly why I didn t buy my last Octavia from them. What sort of dealer doesn't have showroom stock of a new vehicle for its debut and has no product knowledge ???

    Go to Moss Vale!
    They know what they're doing.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I remember pulling up infront of the SCC Skoda lot, and upon walking inside the guy at the desk asked me if it was a Subaru...

Ok so i've been running some numbers on the Drive Away Price on the Ambition Plus Wagon -

    RRP: $28,140
    Drive Away: $30,440

On Road Costs (CTP, Stamp Duty, Registration, Dealer Delivery) = $2,300

I'm in QLD so looking at info on Dept of Transport Stamp Duty, CTP and 12 Months Rego should come to - $ 1,534.95

That leaves $765.05 (best case) for dealer delivery.

Personally I don't think buyers should be paying dealer delivery charges (its part of doing business). So at a minimum there should be a discount of the dealer charge. This comes to around a 2.5% discount.

Surely the RRP prices would have some margin to account for trade-ins etc.

So my question is: is it realistic to expect at least a 5% discount on RRP?
