Calculated that an Ambition Plus + Tech Pack + SatNav + Bluetooth + 2 yr Extended warranty is $35,040. Less than an Elegance without any options. Why buy an Elegance? Am I missing something?

Compare the two spec sheets - there's possibly more than you think. Maybe you don't need those extras but others may find them essential.

I know my FIL can't understand why Lexus exist when you "can just buy a top-of-the-line Camry" (which would make me more inclined to buy a Lexus).

Leather and engine options (and wheels?) spring to mind, there are a few other things I guess as well if I could be assed checking.

There are differences, (the Elegance has independent rear suspension i think?) but a Ambition Plus w/ Tech Pack and nav does seem to be cheaper than a elegance with the same engine.

Another difference is that the Elegance has dual zone climate not standard AC. Believe it or not this is a stumbling block with my partner who seems to require it as she often wants a different setting to me ! But I don't want a Elegance because it is leather only (that is another topic in itself) and there is no manual transmission !

I don't like leather because its hotter in summer and colder in winter. Ambition is better value IMHO if you include tech pack

Just did a quick check of the differences for the Ambition Plus v Elegance 103 TSI. (Of course if you want a bigger motor you have to go for the Elegance or RS.)
If you buy the Ambition Plus with Tech Pack these are the remaining differences compared to the Elegance WITHOUT the Tech Pack.
All 103TSIs have torsion beam rear suspension.

Elegance has but Ambition Plus doesn't:

Leather upholstery
Warning lights on front door
Colour maxi dot
Rear seat armrest with cupholders
Storage box under passenger seat
Folding hooks in luggage compartment
Climate control
Interior ambience lighting
Foldable mirrors
Privacy glass
17”” wheels

BUT consider that you can add the Tech Pack PLUS a 2 yr warranty and still pay less than Elegance driveaway. May have missed something so check for yourself if you are looking at buying.

Also missing out on the Columbus 8" Nav if you're just getting the Tech Pack.

Ambition Plus 103TSI DSG Liftback w/ Tech, Columbus, 2yr Warranty is $37290. $34640 without 8" Nav.

You need to factor what a Tech Pack Amb+ gets over a stock Elegance too...

Pretty similar. We are lucky the black pack rim option is fairly attractive. Have you seen the default rim on the new Golf R? Terrible.
