Mats were standard in the RS always and they are RS ones. It was the cargo netting that was missing, and from memory only in the sedan, the wagon in both guises had it from memory. The Elegance also had full leather with electric seats, late in life the Mk2.5 got full leather but never the electrics. I had enough Europcar Elegances and Ambients hired that I should have "borrowed" one of the never opened packets of nets that clearly kicked around in the boot for years. The RS had the bigger engine with manual option (was the only option originally), lowered sports suspension, the 18" wheels, the alarm (although that went and returned at times), the special seats, sports steering wheel (although no controls until the DSG arrived), rear parking sensors (front available), the spoiler and different front bumper, tyre pressure monitoring and from memory the dark interior was different and not available for the Elegance. Probably a few bits and bobs I missed.

The Elegance this time around seems to come with more stuff so will be interesting what the RS comes with. I think the guessed price of a 6MT hatch is about right, ie 38k driveaway, a bit more with a tech pack. Still seems as if the RS will be missing those extra airbags which is odd, unless they come as a tech pack addition. They may end up much the same, but geared towards different markets, the RS will be stiffer and lower and "sporty" whereas the Elegance is like the 147 TSI Jetta with a more refined setup.

Woofy, I own an Elegance. I can assure you that leather wasn't standard nor was electric seats. Manual was the only option until the FL came out.

If this forum allowed it i'd attach the .pdf files.

Agree about your vision of the Mk3 - which is what this discussions is about.

Yeah I meant it had the option of full leather that came with the electrics. The RS didn't have either, and still never got the electrics when the full leather finally came. From memory later on they included leather about when the Columbus became standard, unless I'm thinking of the Superb. I'm betting Skoda are wishing they still only had manuals with all the DSG recall still ongoing. I have the original brochures around somewhere too in paper and PDF for both the range and the RS one.

I'd be betting they will pull similar things and the RS will be missing some little things the elegance has but have some other "sporty" things the Elegance doesn't. I think for me it will come down to the choice of a manual as the Elegance is pretty nice in the Mk3 and a good price driveaway without even bargaining.

I thought the RS had the 6 speed wet DSG and that it doesn't have problems?

It does have the wet DSG6, but the general public aren't going to distinguish between the wet DSG6 (DQ250) and the dry DSG7 (DQ200) which had/has the issues/recalls.
The average buyer will just see the word "DSG" and look away, regardless of the technicalities.
    Sad but true.

Yep I prefer the manual anyday, not really a fan of the DSG idiosyncracies especially reverse parking uphill, much prefer the control of a clutch. I have no issue with my auto gearbox in my Santa Fe.

I love my manual and will never go back! Considered moving to a Santa Fe Trail with the R2.2 and manual, but figured if I was going to change cars (Sorento R2.2 auto) then might as well go the whole hog and went Octy vRS TDI...
Unlike you, I hated the auto mode with that auto. Only ever used the tiptronic

The tiptronic seems to kill some parts over time, I've barely used it. They did a recall and I had two things done for it at my service in Jan and now the gearbox is grunting and heaving and causing a wicked vibration that is peeving me. They replaced a bracket on it under the recall so guessing that is the culprit but it was an easy and quiet car for a diesel to drive before they did that.

Well I moved from 30 years of manuals to a DSG and so far pretty happy.

Incidentally we have a steep driveway that we reverse up several times a day with no problems. Sounds like they've done a lot of work on the DSG.

If you go back in the evolution of transmission I think you'll find that every variety has had it's problems. My supposedly 'bullet proof' Prado transmission has a tendency to overheat which is solved with a tranny cooler. My mate with the manual version has blown out a rear seal.
