Been watching the thread for quite a while as I've just had major problems with a 2006 Passat 4motion wagon that I finally gave up on a few weeks ago! So now I'm in the market for a new car - first ever new car purchase so it's exciting!

Been really keen on the Octavia RS wagon for a while. Was thinking of throwing out my thoughts here and seeing what everyone else thinks?

    Test drove 5 cars yesterday...
Skoda Octavia RS 2.0 TSI manual (test drove a sedan, but they've got a wagon coming)
Skoda Octavia RS 2.0 TSI DSG
    Renault Megane GT 220 manual
Mazda 6 Touring 2.5L petrol auto
Hyundai i40 Premium 1.7 diesel auto

Myself and my other half love a bit of a sporty drive, and do like the feel of driving a manual, so the Octavia and Megane were the best to drive. Mazda was really high quality finish and the Hyundai had ALL the bells and whistles, but both just didn't set the world on fire with their drive. Smooth, but a bit like driving a bus.

The other half is leaning towards the Megane, while I've loved the look of the Skoda for some time so was hoping to go down that path. We were both a bit disappointed with the service we got from the Skoda dealer so that put a bit of a downer on that experience, but trying to not let that cloud my judgement completely.

The Skoda dealer has 3 wagons on offer...
2014, Black RS, TSI, auto tailgate, DSG, 18" Turini rims - $45,800
2014, Metal Grey RS, TSI, auto tailgate, DSG, 19" Extreme rims - $44,990
2015, Moon White RS, TSI, manual, plus some other bits but I can't remember exactly what they were - maybe a tech pack? (already in Perth, but just not at dealer yet) - quoted $45,916

    Megane GT 220 - $41,746

Pretty sure the Renault dealer is keen to do a deal so that price is up for negotiation. Not sure Skoda will budge much due to the limited stock that's in the counrty.

    Decision, decisions...

I think you should get $2k off that Moon White, more if it's a sedan? Use the Megane as a bargaining chip if the decision is split. Out of interest when was the available Megane built - 2013/14?

Yeah the moon white is a wagon so probably a bit more highly sought after.

Pretty certain the Megane's available are 2014 models.

I drove the Megane GT220 before I drove the Skoda (Both manual) and I found it to be very disappointing in power, driveability and the build quality was not that good...

But at the end of the day you have to buy the car that you find to be the best for you.
Candy White RS Wagon 162 TSI Manwell. 18" Black Pack, Sunroof, Tech Pack.

They aren't really discounting those SKodas at all. Are Meganes made in Thailand like the rest now? The quality really is declining these days, but looks like the price is as well. They used to sell for a lot more than that.

    =======

What was the problem with the Skoda sales experience? I am guessing this was Barbagello Osbourne Park?
