Thread: New Octavia ....when? How Much?

  1. #2931

That's kind of a difficult situation since both sides can plead ignorance unless it was in writing somewhere. I seem to think my order was like GTR's and said "without RVC" or something on the final signing. I don't think officially there was any public notice to cast doubt on the inclusion of the RVC in the tech pack.

The dealer did offer to fit the RVC for ~$1000 but I thought that was a bit much given it should have been included anyway for a car of this price, or for the $300 more recently offered. I find the visibility out the back to be not bad, it's really things <1m tall within ~4m of the rear that you can't really see, but sensors pick things/people up in that case. If you've ever looked out the back of a Civic Type R or Veloster I could understand you wanting a RVC. Anyway, in the last 4 years I've been without an RVC and never hit anything... or anyone... yet

The jazz and my statesman had no reversing sensors (statesman's ones were broken lol) and I've never had an issue, and the statesman was a much larger, longer car with far greater overhangs. While sensors and a rvc are 'nice' they are not in any way shape or form necessary, especially in the Octavia. But maybe I'm getting old, and you should get off the lawn or something.

Agree that rearward vision with the wagon is pretty good and the reverse sensors are a very good backup (pun intended).
The only use I could find for a reverse camera is to accurately place the tow-bar, and I don't have one.

Ironically I have never driven the RS wagon as the dealer only had the sedan when I ordered, so it's good to know reversing visibility is OK. TBH being in this situation now coming to a deal to take a car without RVC with price adjustment is an option to avoid a re-order. We don't have one now and haven't run over the kids yet. We wanted one as it was available, and never in a million years did we think this would lead to some kind of issue. But then I'd never dealt with Skoda before and joining this forum has been educational.

**** happens. I'd be happy to iron out a stuff up with a good honest dealer. That's where my main problem seems to lie (pun intended). Luckily I have a mate in fair trading and my brother in law is a professional deal negotiator, and I've managed to get sticky situations in the past fully resolved with advice, so I'm 100% going for this one, which means politely compiling and writing up everything that presents evidence of the truth and seeing if he then makes good or accepts breach of contract (Passat wagons currently $8000 off...). If not the alternative way of getting satisfied will be launching the OFT case. When you treat people this way it becomes a matter of principle. Anyway, seriously hoping resolution works first. The email will be worded in a way that allows him, if he wishes, to make good and save face. Let's hope for a 'Oh yeah mate, I remember now you ordered in July, I was mixing you up with somebody else. Lets see what we can do...'

Good luck to you, it can be really hit and miss with dealers. Remember though, the car you have ordered is in high demand, with low supply. If you kick up a huge stink, the dealer could just rip the contract up and sell the car to someone else, likely for more due to the short delivery time it now has.....
Certainly not the right thing to do, but an angle I could see dealers take. My suggestion is maybe work towards half of the cost of dealer retrofitting the OEM camera? See how much it is to source from o/s rather than let the dealer tell you the 'cost'

Edit: it sucks if the dealer had misled you though.....I do agree in principal about getting them to do the right thing. A decent dealer would.

Yeah, I have to keep a level head because it is still my first car choice. He does have another RS in the yard we can negotiate over, also without RVC, but can be driven away. But he's also trying to sell that to me for more than our original price, even after I agreed if I took it I'd pay full price for the black pack it has that I didn't really want and the fact it lacks RVC - so the perception he's trying to squeeze me for all he can get is colouring my view. Anyway, will still spell it out in an email, partly because his home turf is saying what suits him at any one time in conversations that are not recorded - but I'll keep it polite and focus on suggestions of how we can resolve it. I think he really wants to shift the car in the yard.

no matter how good the dealer is - dealer fitted options will never match factory fitted build/quality/parts.
specially with things like RVC, parking sensors, bluetooth etc etc.

If the dealer is fitting the same physical part, there will be negligible difference. Aftermarket parts, yes. But if he's using the same camera (likely) then there will be no difference

    Hi all,

After 6 months of wait (well, 1 day short of a full 6 months), I just went and picked up my new car
