Yeah, have seen guys on briskoda mention the black trim looking scuffed at the drop off a hat. I know it will have scuffs - detailers have said it is hard not to scuff them, so I'll just manage that when I get the car.

I always run cars in the same way. Firm, not spanking it no constant throttle, load the engine up, and plenty of engine breaking. Change oil and filter early to get rid of machine swarth and crud, then drive normal. That's pretty much what the manual says anyway (except the early oil change). Never had a car use oil doing that (including last rs). I think as long as you don't baby it everywhere you will be fine.

I’ve been talking to my dealer today and he confirmed my RS wagon with tech pack ordered on 2 July has now been built and is waiting to be shipped. However, he mentioned he has a fairly similar car in stock. But on finding out it has no RVC I said I’d stick with the one I ordered, ETA now Feb.

Now he has just emailed me to say even the one I ordered won’t have RVC, even though it was quite clear I wanted one at time of ordering, and the tech pack at that time clearly stated RVC was part of it.

I will talk to him tomorrow at try to get to the bottom of it. Maybe he’s just emailing from mobile and vague after a long day, but in the meantime might as well ask if anyone else has heard about this happening? RVC’s just not being on cars when they should be. It might be a dealbreaker for us so if they can’t supply a car to our specs with RVC in reasonable time we might cancel.

Sounds suss to me. Sounds like he's trying to flog off the one in stock.

Does sound a bit suss... There was a period where the RVCs had some kind of supply issue and thus were not included in the Tech Pack as originally detailed. This seemed to affect orders made around April to August roughly. However, most orders at the "in-between" RVC/no-RVC period were usually given the option of A) going without the RVC or B) delaying the order until the RVC was available. I would get on to them to find out whether yours has a RVC or not and if not whether there are other options with regards to getting one with one.

On a personal note, I went without one, although it is kind of annoying they are standard now. However, I came from a car that had sensors only and no RVC and felt fairly confident. Might feel differently if I had a young kid though!

Yeah. We do have young kids and are always reversing into a driveway. RVC was an important part of our order. I remember the supply problems. RVCs are becoming bog standard (now appearing on entry level Toyotas I recall) and I'm sure would help resale. That said, lets see how much he wants to shift that car in the yard. We could probably live without one if the price is right. Of course there was no tech pack at all when I did the test drive so I might at least go down and enjoy a go in the car they are trying to sell me (which I'm hoping at least has the parking sensors!).

If the stuff up is confirmed and the wife insists on RVC I'm sure there will be dealers wanting to get rid of MY14 Passat wagons for much less than the RS...

Thanks for all the tips guys, I'll be sure to do a decent inspection! I can imagine that the razzle dazzle of the new shiny car makes it hard to look for defects!!

Get the dealer to fit the RVC.. It's a dealer installable part.

I'm going through this at the moment, got a Race Blue RS sedan with leather and tech pack (no RVC) which has just arrived in the dealer yesterday, they have to sent it off site to a 3rd party installer to fit the RVC. Apparently the dealer fit RVC is slightly better than the factory one, not sure if that's true or not until I get it (hopefully next week!)
