Got my unicorn on ship as we speak with ETA for docking early January. Ordered early July so basically a 7 month turn around if all goes well... Good to hear your car is basically on it's way Venom and GTR, wow what luck but yeah seems to be light at the end of the tunnel for you!
Any tips on what to look out for when picking up a new car? This is my first new car and all so definitely fresh when it comes to what I should be looking out for!!
Most of my checks will be damage - make sure there is no hidden hail damage, or repaired damage. Check all options are there and working. I'll check oil/water/ fluids as well.
^^^ What GTR has mentioned above. Make sure you don't sign the papers before you inspect everything and make sure all is as per your initial order. Trust me you will have the new car daze and your brain will take the back seat. Check for any damages on the rims and plastics as well apart from paint work.
Yeah rims will be the first thing I check! I hate scratched up rims.....
Edit: take a gauge and check the tyre pressures too
This one is a bit out of left field, but the variation in tyre life from new can vary from 20k km to 60k km and is a bit of a hot topic currently.
Even allowing for different driving patterns I think that the difference is that some dealers adjust wheel alignment correctly and others do not.
I assumed they did mine but without an independent check (at my expense) who knows.
Since you have time in hand I think you should ask in advance for a written report on the alignment and camber values from their pdi, it could save you hundreds of dollars avoiding premature tyre replacement. They should not say no but if they do then then say it is for their protection
Oh yes, and check they have taken the shipping blocks out of the front shocks. Not heard of it here in Aus but it has been reported a few times in the UK.
Even take it for a ride around the block before you accept it.
As Venom said the brain deserts you at the time and I did none of the above.
My plan is because I'm taking the wife (it's her car!) She can do paperwork and go through the 'how this works' part, while I disappear and go do my inspection. That's the plan, although I'm sure I'll be so excited to see the unicorn, my head may explode
Check for odd additions and things missing from spec. Mine had a stop-start button fitted and functional USB port missing.
Good to hear you're finally getting your hands on one. Lots of people here have been following your painful experience. Check the black plastic covers on the external door pillars (B-pillars), mine had fine scratches from too heavy a buffing. Didn't notice until I got home bugger all I could do about it anyway.
Tech Pack is awesome. Keep Front Assist on all the time!
BTW Follow the running in instructions form the factory. Enjoy yourself.
