There is a manual RS wagon at a Newcastle dealer but as it has has leather seats and the sunroof both of which we didn't want it wasn't hard to say no to paying $45k instead of $40k for the DSG which is supposed to be 2k more than the manual

Yeah, they mentioned VW were not able to provide a manual (or base GTI) at the time of testing. Skoda give the DSG .1 to .2 secs slower time for the 0-100 compared to the manual (possibly due to different gearing I'd say). Regardless, sub 7 seconds is still good for an economical family size car.

The 80-120km/h test time was 3.9 secs, which highlights how nice the engine is over a broad range of revs. In comparison the WRX manual was 4.49 secs. Even the SS ute (3.5) and WRX STI (3.7) weren't much faster in this test.

BFYB article looks interesting. A RS manual running 6.3 0-100 is solid. DSG in theory should knock 0.2 off that. Wonder why they tested a manual RS but a DSG Golf. Maybe availability.

+++ to car care products. I've dealt a bit with those guys and they are great. Waxit.com also provide good products and service.

A good detailer for a full correction and protection will be half that price (or less depending on how good the car is when you get it)

Car CAre Products. Pay 'em to do one of their nano products if DIY doesn't appeal. Then ask them for training in how to maintain your car

I sent an email back to the Customer Care manager thanking them for their generous offer but that we would give it a miss. A few lines down I added "roflol"
I'm not sure if she saw that. There was also "sport" window tinting offered for only $695. I'm sure it must be faster than the normal window tint

Extended Warranty, $1100 I'e got it down to. I'm not opting for it... I think i'd only keep the car for 3 years really but just for the security...

I it worth extending it? Anyone believe the new RS will go south after 3 years?

When signing a Purchase Order/Contract or Offer to Purchase how much deposit are you buyers required or agreeing to place in cash with the dealers? It may vary of course.

And what sort of option out clauses has anyone inserted in?

When i did mine i gave the guy $1000. Standard clauses were enough for me, pending finance and withing 30 days delivery of ETA otherwise i can get my money back.
I think the minimum was $500.

Did/will anyone purchase extended warranty? I know there was a sale on it when I put my order in back in May, is it still on? I'm 50/50 about getting it.....

Pretty sure I missed the deal, but I am also not sure if I should get it. Apparently you have up to delivery to purchase it at cost of $1600 for 2 years. Then the finance people said its half price at the moment (usually $4000) for 3 years and she was confused when i spoke about the 1600 option, i think they may have been skoda / dealer extended warranty.
