Scott - I would suggest that you put a post on Skoda AU's Facebook page first thing tomorrow morning explaining what the dealer has told you. This will get you a contact directly at Skoda and you can get them to check the status of your order. Good luck!

The dealer knows I'm in the trade(used commercial vehicles) and against my better judgement I ordered the Skoda knowing full well it will be lucky to worth 50% of its value in 3 years even taking into account I can sell it retail trough my yard. If I didnt have my first child due any minute I would cancel the order now, but as we all know there is nothing that compares with the Octavia for size and value. Skoda have us by the proverbials.

You've only got one child on the way and you are worried you'll need a wagon? Pfft, we have three kids (9, 5, 4) and we all fit OK in our Golf7. Having said that, it should get a little more comfortable once the girls are out out of their booster seat.

We have a luggage box too for the roof and at Christmas time we traveled away with the dog and large esky in the boot and all the rest on the roof. No probs.

So dont think you need to worry about a wagon just yet

I have been in constant contact with my dealer re delivery time and have been getting no result. I was given a build date of 22/7 but up until last week the car still did not have a VIN. I have been getting very frustrated as I would call in or email and always be promised an answer in "a couple of days" but would then have to follow up again after a week of no contact. Finally this week I get my first call back and i'm told there is a hold up with MANUAL GEARBOXES with no eta. He claims it is effecting Golf and Audi to and effects up to 60 OZ bound vehicles, anyone heard this? Or is this just a crock off s*!@. Makes me wonder if my order hasn't been stuffed up and just been discovered.

Car manufacturers work on a 'just in time' basis where they estimate the amount of parts needed and these arrive from suppliers just before they are needed. They have to estimate in advance the break-up of demand for options such as the split between manual and auto gearboxes ordered by customers. If customer orders are different from their estimates then yes, they could have too few manual gearboxes and too many autos until they adjust supply which takes time. Whether you are being told the truth I don't know but whenever demand exceeds supply these things can happen. Ford underestimated the demand for manual gearboxes on the recent GT 351 which I believe has delayed some customers receiving their cars.

Just came across this - Skoda adds MirrorLink and access to vehicle data to new Fabia. Wonder when this will transfer across to AU models?

Given that the majority of European cars are sold with manual gearboxes, I doubt this is the case. They'd be pumping the damn things out by the thousands & there are multiple production facilities.

Woohoo! Got a call from the dealer, car already built waiting to get on a ship! Was supposed to be this Friday, but looks like it was a week earlier. Got my vin ready to go for when it does get on a ship. Fingers crossed its one that goes straight to Brisbane, rather than via Perth. Might even get it start of December now!

You are right, we get 3 kids (10,8 & 6), 2 adults and a cocker spaniel and gear for long weekends away in our Polo, without a luggage box

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should we are currently 'making do' in the wife's Honda jazz. Jamming everything into a small car sucks. We can't take everything we want and it's cramped and uncomfortable.

Ditto. I have 2 RF car seats, so no leg room for driver or front passenger. As we are doing extended RF, kids will be RF until 4 or 5yo. This is why I need a wagon-more leg room! And boot space.
