I mean, i've never written a car off before, and havent had any accidents but still......dont want to make a first on either account.
Did you know if they crash it etc before delivery, they fix it and don't tell you. Happens more often than people know. As for the latter, I've had plenty of cars where I have realised if it gets written off or stolen there is no way I could get a car as good from the payout once they are a few years old. I'm thinking I might have to start doing agreed upon values for my insurance.

Yes, I have heard some horror stories about dock incidents. Insurance is something im checking out very closely - so far allianz seem to be the best pds/quote, but also checking out youi (have house through them). We need hire car (only car) and windscreen (due to cost of replacing with those sensors etc) so any other suggestions, that allow choice of repairer would be good.

Also, for those interested, I started a "what tyres did your octavia come with" on Briskoda, and so far it seems vrs get bridgestone S001 or continental CS2's. Other models get pirelli P7 cinturo or michelin primacy somethings (but can get conti's depending on rim size)..... There was the odd dunlop in there, but NO NEXANS. If your car has them when you go to pick it up, question them as they are not OEM tyres.

I'm hoping because I optioned 18's I get conti's or bridgestones (hoping bridgestones as s001's are bloody expensive tyres! - although the contis are a good tyre). But time will tell.

I've experienced this personally and agreed value isn't really needed (at least for RACQ) for the first few years because you get new for old anyway. RACQ won't match the colour but they will match options and I had a car thats rarely in stock (3-door Polo GTI with Xenons) so they just paid out in full the exact amount I paid for the car.

Of course you should read the PDS on new for old for your insurer to see how they would do it but still, worth noting.

Why isn't agreed value really needed for the first few years?
Could you please explain that mate? I haven't really looked in detail into car insurance because of the age of my current car, always went with the cheapest option. Thanks.

Because you get new for old, as I said in my post. So if the car gets written off in the new for old period, they'll replace the car with the same model and options, thus agreed value is pointless for that period.

Please note I'm going off how RACQ does it, no idea how others do it.

Understood. So, what new for old period does RACQ have? Thanks.

Mine came with a Nexen as a spare. I wasn't too happy about it. There's no OEM tyre listed in the manual so who am I to question it? Given my experience with Skoda Australia as an unhappy customer I'm not confident they would care about a customers tyre preference one iota.

I have CGU and they give 3 years new car replacement provided you don't exceed their maximum km. RACQ offer 2 years and most of the others vary between 1 or 2 years.
