I had to wait 6 months for my Polo, I think it is just a case of supply and demand. A popular car in its early production will take a while to supply. I guess in 6 months or so it will take less time as there will be a shorter wait between order and build date.

So delivery wasnt too far off what you were told then......1 month. The huge wait is what kills skoda's sales.....most people simply wont wait that long, even if the car is substantially better/cheaper than what they end up buying.

Thanks for all the info guys, fingers crossed the rumours about increased production rate are true! (reports on briskoda saying that anyway)

I would think it's a case of "get used to it" for these niche brands. Even Holden & Ford will be reducing floor stock and increasing wait times once they stop local manufacture.

Sooner or later they will find a balance between stock on hand vs wait times and cancelled orders.

EDIT: or they can lose more sales...

Sure. They've only had since 2007 to practice (if you are talking about Skoda AU & their stock picking ability)

Except its VW Australia controlling stock for skoda.....cant have skoda take our sales! even if its not a comparable model (i.e. why screw octavia owners? there is no equivalent sized vehicle in VW's lineup.....passat is bigger, golf is smaller).

Sadly, I think buyers have just accepted the fact. I still dream of a skoda that pursues its own interests - imagine the stock availability!

My wife had to wait 12 months for a top spec Mondeo diesel wagon. Look at the wait on Golf Rs & even GTIs at times.

Not sure what the other low-volume marques are like. I know a mate of mine went shopping for a Renault & couldn't even get a test drive - no floor stock.

Anyone else have any knowledge of what the other low-volume brands / models are like?

I know on whirlpool, the amg a45 thread reckons a new a45 has a 20 month wait list now.......

The problem is, all the cars you've mentioned are not low volume/unique - except in australia. Makes me think that those involved in importing them have a lot more to do with the sales volume than the ability to get the actual cars. Although admittedly, if we just adopted UK standards for our cars, I believe we would ensure a much higher supply, and quicker to market (far les regs/changes to go through if our cars were more "common" spec).

Waiting for cars is not new. In 2007 I waited 5 months for a Mitsubishi Lancer because I wanted a yellow manual. There were none in the country so was placed on the order list.

The way it was explained to me by the dealer is Mitsubishi does not hold stock. Dealers have to forecast 3 months ahead what they will sell and the model/colour mix and only this stock is imported. If you want something they haven't forecast/ordered and they can't get it my swapping with another dealer, you wait for it to be built and shipped. If Skoda is now working the same way, the low stock is caused by the dealers rather than Skoda Head Office. However its catch 22 as I can't blame dealers for not ordering stock which they may not be able to sell quickly. As the previous post by GTR27 said, its a problem of the low sales volume.
