It's odd that they use the R engine with the PP LSD instead of just a small in power like the PP in the Seat.

Not that I am complaining. I think the Octavia RS with the R engine and the PP LSD would be a great combination. I think the AWD while a more stable platform does sap a lot of power from the engine. I was really amazed at how much faster the 163kW Octavia felt vs the 155TSI Tiguan.

Tig does have a weight and aero penalty over the Octavia which will slow it down. Plus you'll lose 10-15% in the AWD... but you make that up in traction off the line.

I suspect the AWD plays a bigger role - I remember having the same experience comparing the Scirocco R and the Golf R.

I'd agree with that having driven the 118TSI Octavia versus 112TSI Yeti (4WD) - the Yeti is a second slower to 100 km/h than my Octavia wagon, but again there are the factors of weight (82 watts/kg Octavia vs 71 watts/kg Yeti) and aerodynamics. The Yeti just felt sluggish.

Most people know what I drive & if you are really keen you can do some detective work on my previous posts. It's not a diesel if that's any help.

My point was more that the engines like the extra octane but the reduced calorific value & higher oxygen content in ethanol plays mindgames with the o2 sensor & increases fuel usage.

I have sigs turned off as they are so annoying.

I really don't know how you guys manage to keep fuel consumption so low.

I am currently unemployed so I only head out for groceries (about once a fortnight), to drive the missus to school (the few days a month she needs to be in for her PhD) and when I am volunteering (once a week) with the odd trip down to the Gold Coast to a mate's place (about 75km away).

My Tiguan gets me about 8l/100km with longer journeys but it's closer to 10-11l/100km for the shorter trips.

With VPower 98 and the 4 cents voucher from Coles, I am topping up at 100 bucks for a full tank (when the fuel indicator comes on) and I top up about every 2-3 weeks so say 20 times a year or about 2 grand a year.

How do you get 1.7 grand a year if you are commuting daily?

I get about 8-9L/100 on short-medium trips.
on the highway/motorway i average about 6L/100.

Easy, you're in a High powered SUV with a combined fuel rating of 8.8. SUVs aren't areodynamic, they're hatchbacks on stilts with half a metre of metal wrapped around the middle.

but yes.....its most likely fitted with a K04 from a warranty perspective.
that much power as "standard" from the factory is peace-of-mind.

How on earth are you controlling axle tramping with that much power going to the wheels?
