    Thanks Brad

Tis true, must expand my search, but even then theres not many when i narrow down to sub $25K mark

Are the kms too high on this one for the price? (obviously the ansewr is yes when you look at redbook)

Also I do think the hatch has a pretty huge load if you remove the parcel shelf ? Can a large dog sit in comfort there? (hatch)

That's a good buy - go and get it!

The Octavia DSG box is the older 6 speed which is very robust (it's was the 7 speed boxes that gave trouble)
Provided it had the DSG service at 60,000km all is good.
I've got 55,000km on mine, pretty sure Sasha did over 80,000km on his - no DSG problems

After reading about the 6sp DSG i have faith in them now
I guess its about how easy it will be to sell a high km example (i change every 2 years or so)

Plenty of hatches for same price at around 40,000kms vs this wagon at 80,000kms.

I have exactly 4 weeks from today to find a car or my family will be walking

EDIT: Also thinking I should consider a diesel now just to keep my choices open.
Can anyone comment on whether there's any truth to the Diesel sounding better (exhaust note) than the Petrol in stock form?
Is the DPF susceptible to issues if I'm do mostly short runs ?

Okay, close to getting a 2011 Hatch...
Had a look at the boot and while its huge for a hatch/sedan.. its still got a lip, not enough depth and no where as good as a wagon to load..

But i haven't got that long to find a car... (3 weeks and counting)

To me it seems hatches just sit on carsales for months and months and wagons get snapped up..

Someone tell me I'm making a mistake by not waiting for a used wagon to come along ?

You're making a mistake not waiting for a wagon. And that's coming from a hatch owner.

Agree with all your critizisms of the hatch but what do you mean by not enough depth? Depth is the same on both. Height is the only difference.

You also forgot that on teh hatch the boot opens really high so if you are vertically challenged, grabbing the pull strap may be an issue. Also you have to be careful in low carparks

Interesting, i thought the wagon was actually longer (depth) .. must be illusion of depth because of the extra height

Diesel fuel economy on long trips is unreal - 1,000km per tank
Not that the petrol is bad ~680km

The Diesel does not sound better than the petrol (but does not sound bad)

The DPF costs $5k - short trips are not good for it
Over two years you will do 40k taking the car to 120k?
Check when the DPF needs to be replaced
