Buy a 2010 vRS, keep it for 2yrs, then buy a 2014 vRS.

regarding resale. I have a 2007 build Elegance first registered July 2008. It cost me $30k. It's worth about $10k now. It probably dropped $6k in year1.

My next car will be 2nd hand. Lots of bargains out there for $10k-$15k if you have time to look around

*That extra cash available on the second hand one can go into an ECU tune for that extra kick in the pants feel.
*service costs should be similar and the fuel difference will only matter if you are sitting in lots of traffic.
*If you are changing every few years just wait a couple an you can get all the goodies you are after in the next one....
And you can always go skodateile and grab a new steering wheel with / without flappy paddles, with/without steering wheel controls, 3 or 4 spoke, for about $600 with new control stalks to suit.

Definitely buy 2nd hand.... You can find bargains out there..

I bought my 2010 RS (Wagon, DSG, Sunroof, Leather) just on a year ago with 25,000kms for $23.5k... Im hoping in around 2-3 years time I can do the same again with the new model..

Buying for cheap allows you to put some cash into it like I did and make it your own (i.e. springs, sway bar, wheels, chip, exhaust etc) and make it a hell of alot more fun that you would get out of a new lower spec motor...

Sure, I see the new model and wish it was in the garage, but like everything, it comes at a cost...

When shopping for a mk2 vRS is there any particular MY that is significantly better buying?
I def want the face lift one with LED DRL which is 2009 onwards

    What about kms.

I want to avoid any expensive DSG or timing belt service. Do these happen at 60,000kms and 100,000kms ?

If I keep the car 2 years I'll prob put 20,000 to 25,000km on it.

The petrol engine has a chain - so no timing belt replacement
The 60K service is expensive at dealers $1,100~$1,200
Approved service agents are able to do it for ~$650

I've got 53,000km on my MY12 and it's been very trouble free

MY11 is when they came with columbus std. I had a 2010 build MY11 and it was the first model that had columbus "free".

New Octavia Ambition 103TSi + OR Used MkII vRS ?

Are there any services after the 60k one that are similar in $$$? Assume the DSG need another expensive service around 120,000kms?

My search for a facelifted wagon with sunroof hasn't gone well.. Seems like a rare combo in the sub 30k bracket. (Or any price bracket)

There's a few hatches with sunroof though but those have been listed for a long long time which is somewhat worrying .

I think I picked up a good deal in late June.

2009 FL vRS tdi with 58k for 12.5k. It had the following issues.
1 DSG in need of a new Mechtronics - I budgeted to fix it but Skoda fixed it under "good will", and I scored the fluid and filter change as well (due at 60k)
2 Damage to back bumper - cost $480 to repair and respray.
3 Damage to wheels - I'm on the look out for some good wheels

it is due for the 60k service, but without the DGS it should only sub $400.

Admit I was lucky with the DSG but there is some really good buys out there.

Waiting for the spline drive kit to arrive so I can fit the Eibach springs that are in the garage.
