New brakes and tires - RS162

Sorry I am late to this thread, and I can not help with the brakes issue, but I have suggestions on the tyres.
Bridgestone Potenza RE003 are great in my opinion....

I used volkstech in Heidelburg northern melbourne he was the one who recommended ATE pads

But try any vw specialist near you they are a common item will be easy to order in and fit
It is recommended to change your disc's at the same time as putting on ceramic pads

I emailed Volkstech and I got a quote that was much more than I was expected. Lets just say I emailed another Volkswagen workshop, listed as an ATE Brake Center, that was supplying the part I wanted for much cheaper. I'm sure if I asked them to install it would still be cheaper that what I got quoted. I'll leave it at that.

HSY were the importer but ATE appear to have brought distribution in-house.

I actually emailed HSY and they told me to find my local ATE Brake Center. Seems like HSY is the distributer (as the website suggest) and not dealing with the end customer now.

I'd say HSY won't sell direct to keep their dealers happy. Interesting as I can buy other parts direct from them!

I have the original Potenza's on mine, 2 yrs old 45,000kms. Fronts are badly feathered but decent amount of tread left just so noisy as! Apparently these are common issue with them. Only reason I've managed this much kms is I always keep pressures high. What's the max pressure you guys run on the 18"?

Only reason I've managed this much kms is I always keep pressures high. What's the max pressure you guys run on the 18"?

I run 250kPa/36psi all round on my RS wagon with OEM 225/40R18, which is what the placard recommends. If I have 3 passengers in the back I'd go 40psi at the back. Since I only got my car 2 months ago, and new tyres a month ago, I have no idea if that's a good setting or not, but I will be monitoring the tread level closely since I don't even know if the alignment is correct or not!

Is there any harm other than harsher ride in always running max pressure on OEM 18's even when car not fully loaded ie.
240 - 250kpa front
320 - 330kpa rear

As long as it's below the max quoted on the tyres (which is like 50psi for my Michelin's) there's no immediate harm.

Harsher ride, more wear in the centre of the tyre (depending on camber), and maybe less contact to the road if you go insane like 45+ psi. In fact, it's better to go a bit more than under the recommended as low pressure can cause tyre flex and even less contact path to the road.

Glad you got them cheaper i got them as part of a package (swapped to golf R brakes from the original ones)

I went on a run up the reefton spur last week and the pads worked fine no fade and got better the hotter they got the mark 6 gti in front of me had his brakes smoking at the end of the run and i could touch my calipers with my bare hand (for a few seconds anyway) color me impressed

i run 38psi but have run 42psi fairly often in the past.

I've never experienced a feathering problem in either set of RE050A I've had but I cross-rotate them every year and the change in rotational direction helps reduce any high spots.
