Not sure if any/many of you have seen the new Skoda vRS advertisement, but here it is:

I realise the new model isnt out yet but which of the petrol engines is the pick in the current model? The 90 or the 118? Is the extra grunt worth it for the 118 TSI? In particular for the wagon...
If the Australian version continue with the full sized spare I assume that some of the boot configurations shown will not be available here.
Also note that the media in socket on the dash which is required for iPod connectivity is proprietary and looks to be the same as the current MDI just moved out of the glove box. That's a shame.
I like the little repeater LED's in the mirrors so the driver can see them.
I also hope the headlight washers are as accurate as the ones shown. My current ones blow fluid everywhere.
I would have thought that there would be a considerable difference in performance between 118kW and 147kW(vRS). A 25% increase in power should be noticeable. If there isn't there would be something drastically wrong with one of the engines.
My only real concern with the 118 TSI is that it's mated to the 7 speed DSG if you take the auto option. I'm not convinced that the 7 speed DSG is a really good gearbox it seems to have been the subject of a lot of owner problems.
I have the 1.8L 118tsi m6 hatch. I think it's a great engine for general running about & highway cruising.
Anecdotally, I've heard that many of them come out of the factory with 120-125kw & a few have been dyno'd ex-factory at near 130kw but that could be dyno calibration.
I've had mine with a bluefin remap for the last 65,000km. I haven't had it dynoed & I take the remap peoples claims with a bucket of salt but I'd guess it's about 130-135kw & 310-320nm.
Average fuel consumption over 115,000km has been 6.7L/100km on 98ron fuel.
It doesn't use oil.
I'd happily buy another VW group product with the 1.8L 118tsi (maybe not with the 7sp DSG)
I've never driven a 90tsi, so can't comment on that.
