I have never understood the "camo" masking of new cars! Why not reveal it properly so that we all build up a desire to buy it?
By showing us a masked up boring version, some people could be turned away from it...not drawn into it!

Because it feeds endless speculation on sites like this and pages of coverage on car sites and in printed magazines that money simply can't buy.
Strategically placed "leak" photos of mules in action are worth marketing dollar gold to car companies.
Back in the old pre digital days they didn't really do it because very few people carried cameras and even if they did they had no accessible way of distributing any photos they took anyway. Back in the 1980s and earlier anybody who knew cars would regularly see mules driving around unmasked near car company headquarters and proving grounds if they kept their eyes open. In those days selected magazines would be given special "leak" photos that displayed just enough to keep the public interested.
In Subaru's case they might keep it in camo so we forget how good the concept car was compared to the production model. lol The last concept Impreza looked great but what they released for sale was a poor imitation and it seems the new WRX is going the same way. In line with what K1W1 said, its not a bad ploy to generate continuous coverage for the cars. I think they would prefer to have the final production version shown at a controlled launch and a lot of people will still look to see if it looks like they expected without the camo.
On another note I was chatting to one of the sales managers today and discussed launch dates. He said the new Octy won't be released here until very late in the year due to the existing stock Skoda have on hand. Its also the contributing to the delay in the Rapid.

Be alright if that Czech pounting blonde got outta the way so we could actually see the car.
Also, will the front spoiler/curtain be legal in Aus? It looks very dangerous to pedestrians IMO?
There are quite a few new Octavias running around as team cars at the Giro d'Italia - highlights on SBS2 each night for the next few weeks.
