It was a rope repair from the outside, the tyre did not come off the wheel. It is holding up well so far but after reading some of your comments, I am a bit sceptical now.

When I had the SQ5, I picked up 3 nails in a week within a few days of picking it up new. I took it back to the dealership each time to get it patched up (all in the crown area) and on the 3rd time, they said their tyre/wheel separating machine was out of order. Pretty sure they were sick of me turning up so often, they just used that as an excuse, since they didn't charge me anything the first couple of times. They did mention that I was lucky though to cop the nails in the repairable area, otherwise those 21" P Zero's were $$$ to replace back then.

The routes I drive, there's heaps of construction happening so I have a fair idea where the screw came from!

Rope repairs like that are for temporary repairs only to get you to a reputable repairer Obviously you have gone to a shonky one. So when it lets go and your car is upside down in a dicth you wont have a receipt to attach the blame to him. The very reason why he didnt give you one.

Have had the same situation Had a bikie stick a shiv in the sidewall of one of my taxi tyres was only a few weeks old New tyre was the only fix.

They do that here as well but big truck tyres are a different kettle of fish to much lighter car tyres.

They regroove and retread truck tyres several times if carcass is ok but its recommended not to use them on cars partly because of the reduced maximum allowable speed with them.

Ok after thinking long and hard, I have decided to change all 4 x tyres. I am planning to put the car up for sale shortly and the right thing by the next owner is to hand over a safe roadworthy car!!!

So any recommendations for tyre replacement brands/models? I have the 18" Gemini Anthracite wheels on my RS.

    Thanks,
    Lucki

If the rest are good look around for a S/h one that matches or put the spare on and get something else for that Wouldnt waste money for nothing. You wont get any more for it.

The spare is a space saver mate so that's ruled out.

The front 2 are coming towards the end of their lives so they need to be replaced shortly anyway.

I put Conti Max Contact on mine and have been really happy with them. I expect them to last longer than the 30k the original CSC's did. at around $200 a pop they were cheaper too.

Just remembered this thread - if you decide on getting 4 new ones, Bridgestone are doing 4 for 3. I am getting the RE003s put on. Quite a good saving there ...

Thanks for the heads up.. I've been keeping an eye out but every time I check it's only been on the Firestone or Turanzas.
