Did they remove the tyre from the rim and put a mushroom plug from the inside?
Or did they plug from the outside going in with the tyre still on the rim?
Well, well, well guys... I had the tyre plugged in this morning. They said because the nail went in the tread part, they'd repair it this time. So far so good. Guess time will tell. And they didn't charge me at all!
Thanks for your inputs

Likely a rope repair, either way i would be making sure that tyre was on the back of the car.

Hmm seems dodge, I've had plenty repaired by the same places that recently wouldn't do mine and it was further over in the centre tread but the mushroom plug would have reached to the shoulder so they wouldn't do it. No way would they have repaired that and I took it to three places who have repaired them before as have workmates so it's not like they don't repair when they can.
This document has the answers Read number 16 about tyre repairs and seeing you are in Vic all the others apply as well

That's what I'm thinking - they've used a dog turd and not inspected the inner skin of the tyre. I use them all the time but I wouldn't do them on a customers car.
I disagree on where to fit it. I'd have it on the front for 2 reasons:
1) it wears out quicker
2) Suprisingly, a front failure is easier to control than a rear failure.

You are lucky. at 1700km from new (as in from when I bought the car brand new) I had a piece of what looked like metal house frame strapping, go in sideways through the tread. New tyre time. Couldnt plug that.
Got the new tyre from B J Tmart in Moorabbin and got the car back with cigarette ash in the car. Displeased to say the least, coming from a non-smoking family. Never went back there ever again of course.
At about 12,000km, nail in side wall. New tyre time....again......
But have been able to plug different tyres 4-5 time on the other car. Jax in Moorabbin have been great for this.

Yep that standard is pretty clear, they should not have repaired that tyre at all. I had mine in the crown area, but they still wouldn't do it as the mushroom plug would have been over in the shoulder/curved area and not sealed as well. As painful as it was to replace a 2mth old tyre with no Kms at least I know I can trust it. I've had many repaired in the past so you win some you lose some. But sick of construction sites dropping them. My recent one came from nails falling off the side of a truck on the freeway. If I realised what happened at the time I would have gone after them.
When I lived in the U.K. I had that type of puncture repaired by a specialist company, they vulcanised the patch on with heat. They mainly repaired heavy commercial tyres for trucks and plant equipment.
