i agree the standard halogens ARE awesome. compared to a 1981 corolla.

the HID kit only makes it better. i dont think there is a difference in the actual headlight assembly. behind the lens is the fitting for the light globe, or burner, and can easily be removed. the rest is done in the car with the headlight levelling and washers.

I cant help thinking that tinting the lights then doing an HID conversion is a bit like adding 20kg lead ballast to the car and then removing all your doorcards and sound deadening to get it back to stock weight again

But hey, whatever floats your boat

The stock Xenons are the AFS type. (Motors inside the unit that make it turn side to side, as well as up and down.)
If anyone in the Sydney area has Xenon's and is willing to let me take the bulbs out to have a look inside, that would be excellent.

The low beams of the Halogens are fine. Its the high beam thats useless.
Even compared to my mother's '06 Kia Rio (H4 Halogen bulb)... That being said, the high beams in that are really excellent.

I have the car booked in tomorrow for the blinker issue. (Again. Result of using aftermarket HID's)

I'm going to ask the parts guy for the part number of the Fabia Monte Carlo's projector unit and the part number of the Octavia's halogen projector unit. Also, price of a HID headlight unit.

For those who don't know; the Fabia Monte Carlo has a bi-xenon style projector unit. (I.E. High beam is exactly like low beam, just with no cutoff)
If I can retrofit the Fabia's unit into the Octavia's headlight housing, I can run the motor that drives the cutoff off of the wiring loom which I will have installed for the LED driving lights.

That way, there's stock halogen high beam, as well as the projector producing high beam.
And if I can get the stock HID bulb and controller unit retrofitted (hopefully then it won't produce the errors that the aftermarket unit has), I'll have bi-xenon, halogen high beam AND the LED driving lights.

To answer the inevitable question: Why.
Because I light lights. I like seeing whats infront of me at night. Especially down the Southern Highlands back roads.
I'm going to point you to a sig-pic of mine from another forum: http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._2312439_n.jpg
I was used to having a lot of light, and coming to this vehicle... Well, its kinda stunted.
That being said, my little Rio WAS a project car. I don't intend to do THAT to the Octavia. You can breathe a sigh of relief. :p

I do, however, drive a lot of k's. The car is 5.5months old and its just hit 20,000.
A lot of those have been at night. Down back roads. With Roo's and wombats and things that'll destroy the Skoda.

Also - If I can do something that'll help out the community as a whole... Why not?

there's a big difference behind the scenes, between an afs xenon headlight & halogen projector headlight.
here's some mechanics about the afs xenons - its motors & sensors.

u can also tell by physically looking at the headlight cluster - with the xenon afs ones, there is bigger visible gap between actual projector & housing. this enables it to "swivel". there is also a indent/cut where it says "octavia"
a halogen projector headlight cluster won't have this indent/cut.

    xenon afs

    non-xenon

Can one of you Skoda headlight guru's please confirm the bulbs used in the Octavia's headlight assembly. My brother just recently purchased a new 2012 Octavia and would like to upgrade the bulbs with Phillips Diamond Vision 5000k replacement bulbs.

From what i can gather in this thread, im guessing:

    Main headlight = H7
    High beam = H1
Parker Light = standard T10 wedge globe.

If someone could confirm it would be appreciated.

    Low: H7
    High: H1
    Parker (Non-vRS): T10.

T10 must be incandescent, or resisted LED.
