    quite seemless really...

except, when I turn on the ignition, it takes approx 5 seconds before pairing, and that takes a further 5 seconds to actually pair.
so the music etc goes mute, then the pairing happens, then the music comes back...

    Is that normal?
Yep, must be. Mine does the same. very annoying.

Sat in a mate's Subaru Outback the other day and the pairing was done within seconds of the ignition being turned on without the radio going off ... and also noticed the sat nav had much more details than mine. Practically all the street names could be seen making it much easier to use in Map mode.

Very annoying how the radio goes off for five or more seconds, but obviously normal behaviour...

what do u guys mean "radio goes off for five seconds" when pairing?

mine remains on from ignition, without interruptions, while the phone pairs in the background. when its finished pairing, i get a popup message saying "xxxx is now connected". message disappears after a sec.

btw - the columbus unit itself does not have bluetooth. it simply communicates with the bluetooth module.

Sorry, you're both right. Stays on until the "bell" and message, goes off for a few secs and then back to music. Still very annoying

yep, i find it funny, (and annoying) as it always happens just when I want to hear something on the radio...like a news report, or song artist name...and I sit there for what seems and eternity ...and then miss what I wanted to hear...

    hmm, unlike u guys - i don't have a boing/bell/ding when mine pairs.
i just confirmed it twice this morning.

as i mentioned before, mine is uninterrupted - literally. no mute/pause. radio/media/dvd.

maybe its the bluetooth version i have that makes it different.

I can confirm the bell/silence in my MY12 Superb (Columbus). I wonder what the difference is.

Either that or VCDS coding, I notice he had to enable some options. Ultimately, I'd imagine the sound aspect is controlled by the head unit, not the BT hardware. Something must be muting audio while the phone is connecting.

Alternatively, maybe this has something to do with the BT profiles that are being activated when handshaking with the phone - my phone allows the head unit to play its media.
