MY10 RS Doesn't have the OLD GTI engine!

Why does every car reviewer in Australia continue to refer to the FL Skoda Octavia RS engine as being the "old" Gti engine?

It has the brand new Mk6 GTI TSI engine (not the "old" FSI engine), it's just that it happens to have the exact power outputs as the "old engine". But it is 3kg lighter, has better economy & is specifically tuned for 95RON.

From Skoda website - "The Octavia RS offers a sporty and hot-blooded 2.0 TSI/147kW petrol engine."

From another forum: "The TSI (aka the CCTA) engine is VW and Audi's latest blown small four cylinder engine design. It is a complete ground-up newly designed engine that, while it has similar displacement and power characteristics, it shares virtually no parts in common with the older FSI (aka the BPY).
In addition, some versions of the TSI engine (reserved for longitudinal applications in Audi branded cars) will have what is called "valve-lift" and will be capable of more power, much more torque, better fuel economy and much lower emissions.

So, what's the difference? Ummm, everything."

Should check out this link - http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3889971

It gives all the technical specs.

Why doesn't Skoda Australia do something about this? Surely this would/could damage sales as Skoda is just seen to be getting "old" hand me downs from VW. It appeared with the new engine before VW got it out here. Stealing their thunder a bit.

Anyway, just my 2 cents worth

Basically because they write their reviews from comprehensive review kits provided by the manufacturer. Most of the reviewers are not mechanics or even mechanically inclined, their job is to drive the car and comment on things like ride comfort, noise levels, easy of use of controls, handling from a drivers view point, that sort of thing. If Skoda have not taken steps to properly prepare the information that they provide to reviewers then that's Skoda's fault.

The new engine also has chain driven cams, so no longer needs expensive cam belt change every 4 years (I have the old version with a cam belt, unfortunately )
