Life inside a sub
Switched to a different batch of resin and it had white pigment in it. It was ****loads cheaper, but so much harder to use. You dont get to see it changer color as it hardens, and you cant see the bubbles to press out!!!! BAD! Oh well.. I was getting good by this stage.
Lots of sanding, fitting, testing, resanding going on here. Pain in the
bum.
Ended up with about 5-6mm of fibreglass on top of the mdf, ended up
sanding that down to make the sub sit in lower, then added resin in the
corners under the mdf ring
Liquid nails. Most people use spray adhesive but I couldn't wait and I reckon its crap.
Done the carpet!
Taping up the bottom to protect interior carpet
Test fit. Yay! Looks awesome. It doesn't sit as flush as it could
because I didn't leave space for the carpet. DOH!! Might fix it one day
Wasn't liking the sound so I decided to polyfil it. Also decided to
spray paint the inside to prevent loose fibres getting in to the voice
coil
I also had to drill a hole in the side to run the speaker wire through,
then plug it airtight with roofing filler. I then bolted the sub to the
carpet and installed it back in to the hole. Didn't take pics of this
though.
Last job was to do some soundproofing: Lots of Dynamat type stuff for
absorbing vibration, then MLV.
Doing some Dynamating
Mass loaded vinyl over the top!
Under the seats as well as in the corners. Some other parts done to and
not pictured
So there we are! All done. Already coming up with many ideas for the
versatile material. Definately eye opening and beginner friendly!
If anyone has done something similar please post here!
