on further search i have found it to be a elegance 90tsi,
now this is good in the sense that they have it advertised as an ambition cause cearly elegance is a better vehicle. but is their much difference drive wise between a 90tsi and a 103tsi?
hey all, i need some help. i am looking into purchasing a skoda octavia in the very near future, but i am a little confused with a vehicle i am currently interested in,
they have advertised it as a 103tsi ambition.. but it has the columbus screen with nav/blutooth etc.
my concern is that it may only be a 90tsi.
is there anywhere i can put in a vin number and it tell me exaclty what 'spec' it is?
its a 2012 octavia if that helps.
any help would be greatly appreciated,
cheers,
Ivan

My brain is a bit painkiller addled at the moment, but I don't recall the Elegance being offered in the 90TSI. Can you point us to where it is advertised?
If it is 2012 1.4tsi then it is a mk2 which was only sold here in Australia with the 90tsi version (90kw/200Nm).
The mk3 can really be regarded as a different car, bigger but lighter and the 1.4tsi engine supplied to Australia was a basically a new engine for the MQB platform and with the higher 103kw/250Nm tuned output.
I cannot speak for the petrol engine as my Mk2 was the old 1.9d diesel but I felt the heavier chassis felt better built and the multilink rear suspension allowed it handle and ride better although there was a lot road noise in the cabin.
My 103tsi mk3 is a lot bigger inside but lighter than the mk2 and to be quite honest it still stuns me that such a small engine in such a big car can provide more performance than I really need and/or such good economy.
The main criticism of any Skoda is that because they are NOT 'fashionable' in Aus they suffer higher depreciation than normal but that could work well for you.

the dealer has it advertised as a 103tsi base model,
i did a search on the skoda vin checks, and its coming up as a 90tsi elegance, its a 12 plated vehicle. i was suss due to the alloys, and upgrade ice. but i will not be telling them they have marked it wrong if i can get a good price.
the 90tsi doesnt bother me too much as i dont plan on modding the motor or anything like that. but i was happy to find the nav/bluetooth etc so it means i don have to fork out extra $$$ to add those things which is what i want. ill let you all know how i go today. fingers crossed.
cheers

You need the dealer to identify it correctly - insurance could give you grief if you've insured the wrong model
2012.1 Skoda Octavia VRS DSG Wagon - Carbonio cold air intake and pipe - HPA Motorsports BBK 355mm rotors 6 pot calipers
APR Stage II ECU - APR 3" exhaust down pipe & high flow catalyst
APR/HP Roll bars - Eibach springs and Bilstien shocks
Supaloy lower control arms - Enkei 18*8 Wheels
It still doesnt sound right as I could swear the elegance wasn't available in 90TSI, only 118TSI. Sounds like an Ambition with some extras.
the label that sits in the spare wheel well clearly says 90tsi/ elegance
although when searching for a matching car, they dont always have elegance as an option. its just a 90tsi dsg 7 speed liftback etc
where as for the ambition it actualy says 'ambition' as a model code
. unsure why but either way i have purchased the vehicle.
will post some pics when i take delivery etc
happy days
first euro car for me

A bit late, but if you have the VIN, just use a free VIN decoder on the web. Google for one. Plug in the VIN and it will tell you what model/engine etc is attached to that VIN
As far as insurance, just tell the insurance company exactly what the model and engine really is. Regardless of what the dealer has sold it as. I had this issue with my UK import Audi A4 as the A4 wasnt sold in Australia as a 1.8T without Quattro.
Welcome to Euro car ownership. 2012, check when timing belt/cam chain is due.
2001 - A4 B6 1.8T Sedan Manual - (sold @ 254,000km)
2008 - A3 8P 1.9tdi Sportback Manual - (sold 90,000kms)
2013 - Octavia RS wagon - 1z - Race Blue - TDI - 6M - Leather - MDI - Whispbar S44W - LED interior kit - RVC forward?/retrofit - Mk3 gear shifter
2021 - Q3 S-Line wagon - F3 - Daytona Grey - Westfalia towbar - no other options available.
so i brought the car home this evening, made sure i did all my checks, to ensure the right vehicle was selected,
so its a 2012 90tsi elegance hatch,
travelled 102xxkm with a full history, car presents excellent for the kms
interior just needs a good thorough cleanse. the outside has a few chips but nothing too bad ( im a panel beater by trade so it doesnt bother me so much)
i will post up some pics on the weekend, nothing flash to look at at this stage, but will look into a few tasteful additions. deffinately looking for insperation
