You cannot speed in Adelaide, and progress is no slower. It was easier in the diesel.
I can better the average but the wife drives the car as well.
Leaving the car with the dealers to investigate the hesitation-when-cold put the biggest hole in my stats though.
Consumption at tickover is 0.4l/hour (0.7 with a/c), I believe 4litre Falcon is about 1.5l/hour.
Cool. So around 650ks in town?

Agree with you about the wife being worse. Mine gets really frustrated because I've always gotten anywhere from 10-20% better than her, despite what she calls 'thrashing it'. Reading traffic, knowing when to coast in gear (= no fuel use) is all I really do. If I make a real conscious effort I can get crazy good economy from our jazz, bit it's so gutless even flogging it that I don't feel safe driving like that in it.

The rs is an unbelievably efficient engine compared to other makes 2l turbo (fraud eco boost I'm looking at you!). Seems to give power and economy, and a lot of people can actually get good economy figures, rather than just hyper milers

650ks in town would be about right. That includes a LOT of really short (sub 2 or 3 km) trips for ageing in-laws (in speed restricted and speed bump infested retirement village). On a normal cross-town trip (10+ km) in peak it usually averages about 5.9l/100 or 5.5l/100 out of peak.
Agree about the efficiency. The Octavia wagon is my Goldilocks car, everything is just about right.
Would love a vRS but honestly, the frustration of all that potential that I could not use would drive me to lose points.

One criticism: I notice in a review that the new Jazz with CVT cruises at 100kph at 1700 rpm.
The manual Octavia 1.4 in 6th is 2100 but it should be about 1900 rpm or even lower. It does not seem right that you can still accelerate up a relatively steep hill in 6th

Our jazz is gd manual 1.3.... Does 3200rpm at 100kph. Noticeable increase in economy at 90, noticeable decrease doing 110.

Sound like it should get similar to the jazz. But being substantially faster. The jazz is slower than fossilisation...

I drove to Melbourne, from Canberra, approx 660 km, and still hadn't reached the red zone! Still had another 100km or so left.
    was 6.4L/100km.
Plenty of enthusiastic overtaking maneuvers with the stage 2+...was very impressed.
Yeah our Mk2 makes it from Melb to Canberra on one tank. I don't even think the turbo really works hard on that freeway, boost would be pretty low and not needed.

The 1.8tsi is 2200rpm at a true 100 and well on boost by then. I like the fact i can just squeeze the throttle & it starts moving.

1900rpm at 100 would be nice but I think it would spoil the overall driving dynamics & flexibility.

Now that the weather has gone warmer in Brisbane, the fuel consumption is positively mind boggling, I can get 350km on just under half a tank which is somewhat as advertised 6.4l/100km. Not that I'm complaining but that much difference?

Started doing this about a month ago, I thought i forgot to reset the trip meter but this keeps happening after two re-fuel cycle and I kept an eye on how many liter went into the tank, everything seems to adds up. I'm under the impression the car only has 50 liter tank.

I'm trying to get a consensus on the fuel consumption of other mk3 RS TSI. Does your car produce better mileage on warmer months?

FYI, I use Mobil 98 octane from my local 7-11 and the car has done about 8000km.
The new engine was probably really tight. I know my EA888 V1.0 showed a noticeable imptovement in economy after 5000km and again after the 15,000km service. It bottomed outaround 25,000km.

IMO, during the first 5000km don't even think about economy. Try & drive briskly & visit the higher revs on occasions. Long-term it will be a better engine.

edit: I get my absolute best economy when the air temp is 23-28 c

Although im aware that the latest 2.0 TSI engine is more efficient than ever, its also the most powerful ever. Im having a bit of a chuckle about all the talk on economy and efficient driving......you bought the sport model with a turbo engine!!

Ride the boost and enjoy the power. I drove a Mk3 vRS a few months ago and they go well.

The question on my mind is, has anyone got a manual Mk3 vRS?

FWIW my modified Mk6 Golf R averages 9.5L/100km and that's almost entirely short drives around town. I don't drive it with economy in mind, but i do drive it with respect and mechanical sympathy. Our modified Mk6 GTI sits on around 7.5L/100km and it sees less around town driving and more open road 80-100kph trips. The engines in both cars are modified and yet they still return excellent economy (actually better than stock in most cases) and smoothness.

Would have been driving one for a couple of months now, if not for the dealer fumbling with the order and a DSG turning up instead. Sighhh...

The manual vRS sites around 2200 at 100kph if I recall correctly and I agree this is too high for highway driving. The MFD wants me to put the car in 6th gear at 65kph......to me 6th gear should always be an overdrive for highway driving. My wife's Tiggy has a better 6th gear IMO.....more suited to an overdrive.
